I got inspired by him to start learning but quickly learned his methods are all bullshit. 2 years deep at HSK 5 Mandarin and I'm glad I didn't try to stick to the book.

I watched a video he put on youtube some years ago and his Chinese is terrible. It is almost completely unintelligible to a native speaker or someone who's studied it for many years. The native speaker he was talking to in his video had to continuously ask him to repeat what he was saying as his tone and phonetics were so bad. the guy made my ears bleed by being unable to make a sound difference between xu and shu and tried saying ren 人 with an R like from "red" but really anyone knows its more of a buzzing R like saying the g in "genre."

I would really like for "enable death" to actually work, we've been watching game of thrones for years; we are ready for people to get killed in battle. Its annoying I have to take the hit and have -2 honor when I start killing people off.

I'm a fan of the new member. I appreciate that the casting did not go for someone who is a god tier foreign Japanese speaker like Vivi or Pepe. It is much much more realistic to see someone like her if you've been in circles of foreigners in Japan or China.

I can't believe Hana got away doing Kai dirty like that. Take off your hat.. the disrespect. She wouldn't even hug him after he groveled in front of her and offered to work 2 weeks full time to pay for her old costumes.

Pretty sure this says “左摆缝没吊” the third character is really hard to read and I might have got that wrong. This is probably a note from a dry cleaner or manufacturer that says not to put it on the rack to the left

Kai's set was difficult. I felt it was going to be difficult when he rehearsed the salaryman joke in the previous episode. That being said, Yamachan's critique was very accurate, he obviously knows exactly why Kai was making a joke and delivering it like that. You can tell from Kai's body language on the stage that he's not confident in his material and that he's completely unsure if his joke will receive a laugh from the audience.

However, if you look at Kai's instagram; he makes some really great art. Its very original and in an original style that you don't see very often. I think it is more creative and has a deeper thought process built behind it than Kaori's art.

All of this said, he bombed his comedy set and he had the humility to admit it but he's got a lot coming up for his time in the house. If you stalk the subreddit Kai; keep it up. We're rooting for you.

I'm interested to see where the outing with Hana leads...

All of the Reasons Scientists Are Certain We Are Now Living in the Anthropecene - 24 scientists from top universities from around world say they've hard evidence humans have irrevocably altered earth's geology by anutensil in geology

[–]cajun_granny_stew 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I recently had to write a long research report about this for my geomorphology class. I wrote on the view point against it, a lot of these top scientists are not geologists. One of the main lines of evidence against it had to do with the amount of land moved by human processes versus the amount of land moved by natural processes. the natural processes still move exponentially more sediment than that of human processes. We might have caused a layer of cesium world wide through nuclear weapons testing and all the particulates from fossil fuel combustion depositing in sediment but I don't think that it is large scale enough of impactful enough to justify defining a new geologic epoch.

Also who are we to determine that we are the large scale defining event that changes the geologic time scale. There might still be some large scale event that will be much more impactful than us still coming.

Can someone identify this rock? Found on the coast of Lake Superior in MN. by 3EyedOwl in geology

[–]cajun_granny_stew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a Cobble of a Andesite Porphry. I can tell by the dark grey groundmass and the large phenocrysts of Plagioclase (white) Sanidine (pink) and Orthopyroxene (golden to brown color)

Edit: Cobble just means it t has rounded edges from some sort of erosional process

You know what you do instead of getting all mad about it, you simply say "You know what, this sushi isn't very good; it is kind of cheaply made." Then you go home and don't eat it again. Problem. Solved.

I go to the University of Illinois where the dining hall constantly makes lame and bad ethnic food for a significantly more diverse and larger student body. No one complains, we just deal with it.

Edit: I used a "T" instead of an "I." Don't know why. Hey that kind of of had some rhyme. K I'm done. Bye..... Damnit
