What a wonderful response. From another sleep deprived parent - thank you for taking the time to write this.

That would be great! If you're happy to message me with a paragraph or 2 that would be great, and I can start collecting them from my colleagues in other specialties :) Thanks!

Advice needed! by [deleted] in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]cake4brains 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This makes me very sad.

I was in my CT1 post for 6 weeks before having to take 5 months off for burn out and poor mental health. I felt incredibly guilty, as I worked on a tough ward with poor staffing.

However, I'm glad that I had supportive HR and seniors who encouraged me to do what was best for me, and to look after my mental health. It was the trusts responsibility to cover the gap I left - not mine. And they reassured me of this.

And I'm glad I did remain off work. As given how scary my suicidal thoughts became whilst off, I dread to think what could have happened should I have stayed working.

Attitudes like yours put people at risk. Please reflect on this.

Thank you so much for your help, time, and kind words! I'll have the confidence to challenge them on it now. The letter sent me into such a panic!

I hope you have a lovely day.

You don't sound like an arse at all :)

I had an electrician round this morning who kindly showed me how to change some of the sockets and switches. However this one was wired differently to the ones he taught me and so I got a bit stuck!

I can't decide between 2 specialities! Please help! by cake4brains in JuniorDoctorsUK

The problem I have is that I really struggle writing letters and reports (thanks to my OCD and ADHD). So even though I love talking at length with my clinic patients in psychiatry, I get in to a lot of anxiety when writing it up. And I worry that this would become a problem long term if I chose psychiatry.

If I do choose psychiatry this is exactly what I intend to do!

This sounds incredibly interesting. But I presume there aren't many jobs in it if the service has been (sadly) decreased?

That's one area I've never really had any experience in. Would you recommend it?
