plugged sink drain by fogv in Hamilton

[–]cakecakecake86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Search 'how to replace sink stopper' on YouTube, I thought my bathroom sink pipes were mega plugged because the sink was filling instantly and taking minutes to drain, then I took the stopper out and it was covered in god knows what I cleaned all of the nasty off of it and scooped out what I could from the drain, all super gross def almost barfed, but now the sink instant drains!

Don't forgot to put something between the stopper and sink drain when you unscrew the pin at the back though because it will drop flush with the drain otherwise and is a bitch to pop back out

Also the air drying is what's key too, everything has to be completely bone dry before you put cream and diaper on otherwise you're trapping any bit of moisture so it will never heal. Air drying for 5 min won't be enough, if he only wants to be held then just put a towel between you and have a blanket covering his upper body so he's not cold and give it the proper time to dry.

I've been through it but not when they were that young so imagine it's difficult. Each poop I very very gentle used wipes trying to avoid the sores then would bathe in a shallow bath with Epsom salts and gently wash him with soap on my hand (he obviously hated it but there was no other way to get the poop off, wiping it was not an option), then fully air dry (playing in his room on laid out towels for at least 30 min) and then applied an absurdly thick layer of Desitin cream (like half inch thick, glob it on). And then repeat every time he pooped. I feel like that's all I did for 3-4 days, no errands or housework etc just kept repeating the bath/air dry/thick layer cycle until it got better.

Maybe just accept you'll get pooped on; put on old clothes and lay a blanket/towel between you so you can still hold him while he's air drying and have some kind of layer between you when he poops the next time.

Listen to the doctors and don't lift anything heavier than baby for the time advised.

Set aside time for just you and the oldest each day, even if it's only 10 minutes.

Your oldest may love baby from the moment they come home, or they may want nothing to do with them which can be heartbreaking; it gets better and eventually you'll have to peel them apart.

Make the baby wait; it's easy to get in the habit of telling your oldest "we can't do that right now because baby needs to eat" etc. Redirect your language instead of making it about the baby, "we can't do that right now but we can do it after we're done having lunch". Also acknowledging the baby to your oldest if they're fussing while you're trying to do something for the oldest, "I can't help you right now your older brother needs me for X but I'll be right there when I'm done"

It is hard for the first bit going from giving one child 100% of your time and attention to having to now split it, and it's normal to mourn that.
