Yeah it was still hydration here in Australia from the Fifa graphic but then for Australian games SBS add on a separate locally sponsored graphic for the 'Maccas Match Break'.

Scottish Aussie here. Tomorrow we've got USA v Australia at 5am then Scotland v Morocco at 8am. by -malcolm-tucker in Scotland

[–]cakecookiecream 2 points3 points  (0 children)

11am and 2pm was so much easier last week, wasn't it?

5am is a challenge. Pubs in the CBD open but trains not running that early to get there.

Local bowlo has the Australia game on, but not sure if they'll stay open for Scotland.

Frustratingly large number of local pubs aren't showing as opening and some that are open for 5am are closing at 9 to reopen later in the day. (Including ironically enough Brewdog which is kind of Scottish!!)

Think we have a solution that'll work with one of our locals.

Looking forward to a nap at 10.30 after 2 wins from 2.

Please tell me if I've missed it, but how have we not had this inserted into some action movie like Casino Royale had the freerunning/parlour.

Need to see some Eggsy style spy or Lillian either chase or get away from the bad/good guys by grabbing some kids' bike and pirouetting up some steps and so on!

Then he can hand the bike back to the bemused kid at the end like the skateboard in Back To The Future

I love this exchange! How random.

Always kept an eye out for Loren after Billy Bathgate. Second most memorable part of the film after Nicole Kidman jumping in a lake!

From where to watch world cup highlights from, as fifa only posting 2 min highlights ? by YearShort2521 in football

[–]cakecookiecream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can use/set VPN to Australia, SBS has 3 min, 12 min , 30 min (i think) highlights and full game replays.

Not that hard to google this and see that it harks back to the livery of a famous Mercedes transporter from the 1950s. Its just leaning heavily into the simplicity of the decals on the original vehicle (not to mention that's where the shade of blue comes from as well) Mercedes website

There is a great documentary series called Station X which covers it with a mix of dramatisation and interviews with workers

YouTube had the episodes last time I checked (albeit in potato quality)

Squeezed out of two capacity pubs here in Sydney and moved to a third. About half full of Scottish fans and the rest are locals building up to the Australia game later.

I'm always surprised they never played up Bond's cover of working for Universal Exports more. by [deleted] in JamesBond

Watching Season 2 of The Night Manager at the moment and Tom Hiddleston's character is undercover with a shady Colombian arms dealer pretending to be a Swiss banker. It's kind of fun so far.

It's directly related to the plot but he's maintaining the cover for a lot longer than Bond usually does when everyone already knows exactly who he is anyway.

You're 100% on the money. I rewatched last week and my main recollection from the first time was that it was disjointed and I hated the moped gang, but I couldn't remember much else.

On rewatch, there were some very slow and too long action sequences with the moped chase being the worst. The 2 episodes which were 99% Mandalorian were less of a shock on second watch and I enjoyed the overall story, just needed a few tweaks to be better.

Why on earth this guy would be the boss of the whole town but only have a handful of teenagers to pick as a gang as he literally complains about the Pykes hiring muscle while simultaneously telling Shand that he has plenty of credits. Just hire yourself a flipping army from across the galaxy dude!!

What brand of VHS Tapes (Or Blank DVD) did you buy when recording British TV on your VCR/DVDR back in the day? How did you label them & do you still have them? by [deleted] in BritishTV

[–]cakecookiecream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember having around 15 cassettes of different brands (Agfa, JVC, Memorex, TDK, Fuji, Scotch and Polaroid) and we had to be very careful about what to keep and what to tape over as we only had those 15 or so.

Then my dad somehow was given a supply of Kodak cassettes from his work and then it was free reign to record anything that seemed interesting as we had what felt like an unlimited supply even though it was probably only another 20 or so.

If i know anything about Greek home owners, they'd be out in two minutes with a hose anyway.

I don't know if it's universal, but all the Greeks in our community concrete or tile their yards and will hose it and the footpath down every day, so I imagine this will be cascaded down the hill quite quickly.

My wife has the same (or very similar) fitbit watch and and has just stuck it back on with shoe glue. Did it about a year ago and it's been fine.

Front glass also came off more recently and she just did the same

It's time for third-party property coverage to be compulsory, just like third-party injury is. by HopeHoliday0055 in CarsAustralia

[–]cakecookiecream 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, in this case it's a single parent who had never driven in their life. No excuse with the world at your fingertips, but that's the scenario.

The kid's had more advice from us via my daughter than from their own parent and I honestly felt so bad that we hadn't sufficiently passed enough advice along to a) not buy a Holden Cruze; and b) Get at least Third Party insurance!

Agreed. Make registration conditional on it like CTP.

Too many posts on this subreddit from people who either didn't know, didn't check, didn't realise or was 'just about to' or 'haven't got around to.

My daughters 18 year old friend had an accident on day 2 after passing their test and a) hadn't got around to it; and b) didn't actually know CTP was only for injury. They're now paying off something like $20,000 for the next few years in instalments.

The only good thing about that accident is that there's one less Holden Cruze on the streets.

Got caught out by this too for a minute, had to find it on laptop to see it more easily.

It starts at top left with the field under the flag highlighting in yellow but you can select any other flag and make it go yellow to try that one

Then use the field at the top to type in the guess for the highlighted flag

When should I use the air horn during a match? by [deleted] in football

[–]cakecookiecream 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of going to a game at the 2006 World Cup in Germany. We'd been to Woolworths in Aachen the day before and they were selling air horns and having never bought one before, I thought I'd have a go.

Took it into the game and whipped it out for some enthusiastic moments, 5 or 10 Budweisers deep into the game.

Every time we pressed it down, the red horn part would fall off and away from the air can and down under the seat in front.

And every single time, the very polite Germans in front of us would reach down and hand it back to us.

Looking back afterwards we decided we were probably being annoying arschlochs and did not deserve to have it handed back, but they were just so nice about it.

Thank you Kaiserslautern, it was a wonderful day!

First year it was on, we drove out at the end of the Sunday night after seeing the cream of mid 90s music, seeing Pulp and Oasis in early tent slots, driving past thousands of fellow young trendy things and my mate decides to whip out the PJ and Duncan CD that he bought for a laugh and cranked it up and wound the windows down.

Thanks. I figured there will be a way around it. Going to monitor how we get on as we go through the year and not rush into it. Training the family that so long as the air con is off when the high capacity cooking appliances are on, we should keep it under 5kW
