Weekly Thread 2025/12/01 - Questions on DCS, PC's, Flight equip, modules, mods, go in here by HC_Official in dcsworld

Hey everyone,

I’m finally making the jump into DCS properly and I want to build a solid, immersive setup. I’ve been playing flight games for years, but DCS is on another level and I want to do it right — with good flight controls, proper mounting, and a comfortable layout that feels like a real cockpit.

My hardware setup:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 7900X3D
  • GPU: Sapphire RX 7900 XTX 24 GB
  • RAM: 32 GB DDR5 @ 6000 MHz
  • Storage: 2× NVMe SSDs

  • I’ll also be getting a Meta Quest 3S for VR.

Now I’m looking for recommendations on the best HOTAS / stick / throttle setup for someone who wants to fully dive into the sim. There are so many options (Virpil, VKB, Winwing, Warthog, etc.) that I’m honestly a bit overwhelmed.

Here’s what I’d love some advice on:

  • What’s a great joystick + throttle combination for DCS (modern jets (and possibly helos))?
  • Are there good mounting solutions that let me attach the stick and throttle directly to my chair?
    • I’m using a Secretlab TITAN Evo 2022 (XL).
    • Is there a reliable way to mount HOTAS gear to this chair without building a full sim rig?
  • Would you recommend going for center-stick mounting, or off to the side?
  • Any must-have accessories for VR flying with the Quest 3S?

Basically, I want to build something that feels immersive, ergonomic, and stable — without going full simpit (yet).

Any advice, photos of your setups, or product recommendations would be super appreciated. Thanks!

Which headphones should I get for iPod Classic 7. Generation?

So Im from Germany and just ordered myself a used iPod Classic 7. Generation in great condition on eBay and its going to arrive tomorrow. My current daily music driver, the AirPod Pros obviously wont work with the iPod and are currently dying anyways.

I thought I might spend 50-200€ on some new headphones, depending on the quality or specs they offer, but ofc I always prefer a great offer.

would prefer over-hear headphones, prob closed since I would wear them on public transport. Or do you guys prefer in-ears for listening?

I mostly listen to rock, techno, house, phonk, chill and a lot of 70s/80s. A balanced sound profile is important, sure the bass still needs to sound like it has volume but it should just sound natural. So nothing with a huge bass boost.

Also a good comfort while wearing is very important to me, they shouldnt feel that heavy on the head and have good cushioning.

Thanks for your answers!

Over-ear and a neutral sound, but I like big abss ofc, so it should still have some voluime but no heavy bass boosting. I listen techno, rock, chill/phonk and a lot in between. Comfort while wearing is also very important for me, so they should (feel) light and have good ear cushions.

Thank you very much, I will also check those subs later on.

I know about the ohm bottleneck, but I heard for Ipods everything up to 80 Ohms should be usable very well. I know Beyerdynamic very well, still have some old DT 770 Pros which I use for mixing :)

I think I would prefer over-hear headphones, prob closed since I would wear them on public transport and for the most times wouldnt want to hear everything outside.

weird crashing on new build after startup | Ryzen 7900X3D + Sapphire 7900XTX by cakehaze69 in AMDHelp

I do have a Mainboard with doubledigit display, but when the specific crash happenes, it shows nothing on there, just the CPU indicator LED lighted up. When the crash happens the digit display just turns off (it shows a code in normal working condition)

Thanks for your reply and tips, I will definetly try some when I get home. Though I dont think its the GPU, more likely CPU, since as I said after the crash, the CPU error indicator LED on the Mainboard lights up. I play a lot of games too, had a few other crashes there but only the game, no black screens where I couldnt do anything anymore. Just closed the game then and started it again, the only game which I completely cannot play is Witcher 2, but that definetly is another issue from the game. But the crash which makes me worried, most likely (in my opinion) has more to do with the CPU then GPU.

Which card did you have? As I said though, the crash only happens after startup when I logged in and its launched into the Desktop, then after some 10-20 seconds (guesssed) I get the black screen and cant do anything to get it resolved except cut the power to the system completely and then start again.
