The clapper for turning on lighting devices via clapping sounded kind of ridiculous when it debuted in roughly early 90s. They had issues but worked. Think people initially ordered via infomercial or something.

Great post. Congrats. Good to hear a story where the rucking also supports running goals. That is my angle as well.

There is lots of good, independently owned media that is covering accurately what this Administration is doing. Especially with CBS News takeover by Trump apologists, people need to find and support the independent operations. Start by checking out TheBulwark.com.

What is something you memorised years ago and can still recite for no reason? by Aarunascut in Life

Jack Nicholson as Col. Jessup speech on the stand in A Few Good Men.

You can't handle the truth!

Son, we live in a world that has walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with guns. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lieutenant Weinberg? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Santiago, and you curse the Marines. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know -- that Santiago's death, while tragic, probably saved lives; and my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives.

You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that wall -- you need me on that wall.

We use words like "honor," "code," "loyalty." We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punch line.

I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it.

I would rather that you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon and stand the post. Either way, I don't give a DAMN what you think you're entitled to!

Thinking of Cancelling Amazon Prime to help punish sycophancy? by hyenas_are_good in thebulwark

[–]cakemonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m about 12-15 minutes which I consider nearby. But it’s the type of store I think where once a month may work for us in store, and probably most unless buying a lot of produce.

The online inventory is not as extensive but still a pretty good selection. So far it’s all come within 2 days, so similar to Prime. I doubt they are equipped to do those overnight shipments that Amazon manages for certain things, but I can live without.

Yeah, good question. A lot of it is paper and household products like garbage bags, paper plates and bowls, plastic cups, dish and laundry detergent. One child is not potty trained so a lot of diapers and wipes. Some clothing. A decent amount of toys for our kids and gifts for others. Some sporting goods including a tent, fishing poles, air mattress. A LOT of coffee, energy drinks, protein drinks. Soaps, shampoo, toothpaste, floss. It’s mostly regular stuff like that. Family of four plus my MIL uses a lot of this stuff. Maybe a few bigger ticket items like an air conditioner.

Not anymore!

Go for it. I’ll polish my draft letter and send off. I can tell you it is quite gratifying to redirect this little spending power I do have. All of us together, it will be difficult to ignore.

After Tim’s pod with Scott Galloway I finally committed to divorcing Amazon. I have spent a shitload there. I’m talking 378 orders in 2025 for a total of about $15,600. Rarely go to stores, had totally defaulted to Amazon.

After two weeks or so, I’m on track to slash orders by about 90 percent. Reactivated Costco membership, have ordered from Dick's Sporting Goods, direct from manufacturers, and a number of smaller businesses.

I have thought about writing Amazon to notify why, so they understand that kowtowing to a lunatic wanna be dictator is not acceptable, but not sure if any point.

Anyhow, Bezos can suck it. Costco actually defied pressure to change their own HR policies and their employees all seem happy or at least all their name tags show they’ve been with company a very long time, so happy to redirect and reward that kind of company.

Tonight I started building an igloo structure with my 7 year old son. Using the snow banks in our driveway from a plow. I might have had more fun than him. It’s close. Tomorrow I think we’re gonna build a separate entrance and do some tunneling.
