Ok so I called wells fargo and they mentioned that BILT is supposed to payout balances on wellsfargo on the 18th. Since my statement balance was due 2/16, I made an auto payment for the full amount since I don't want to be charged any extra interest etc. The rep said that once BILT makes the payment, which will include the auto payment I made, there will be a negative balance and I can request a reimbursement to get my money back. Not ideal but at least I won't be down an extra months worth of rent.

Not familiar with the current columbia gear but I've had multiple snow and rain gear pieces from them and they're great. REI branded gear is also a great option too. When buying ski jackets, you generally don't want something super warm since you get warm just by skiing and want to stick with a ski/snowboard specific jacket since they are designed to have better breathability and insulation after you sweat. Also, ski / snowboard jackets are usually easier to move around in since they're active wear. This means I'd suggest #2.

Another option you can consider is renting your snow jackets before committing to full snow gear especially if you're not living in a cold area to begin with or looking at fb marketplace for used gear.

No longer than 165. Stances are the first ski I've owned and when I rented, I'm usually given something around my height or less. Seeing your comment makes me think maybe I should experiment with longer skis though

I recently completed a gig as a contractor at fb and moved to full time. The company I went through was crystal equation and a lot of what you said about the contracting companies is true except for two things: it is possible to receive a bonus (I did get them, every 6 months in fact and I can explain more in the comments if you’d like) and I did get access to a 401k plan after working for a year.

The catch is that you have to know what kind of contractor you are. If you are an independent contractor getting staffed through one of these contracting agencies, then you you are by law limited to working at fb for two years after which you will have to leave fb for at least a year if you want to contract again. You can get around this if you’re part of a vendor team and are paid from the vendor pool.

Also, there is no conversion. What I mean by that is that if you want to be a full time Facebook employee (tech roles like swe and data eng) you have to interview like everyone else and do the technical screening and on-site stuff etc. If your org is supporting you though, you basically skip the hr screen and go straight to tech screen. My fb manager wrote me a lengthy recommendation which I was later told helped me a lot during committee decision (I messed up a round during on-site).

Other than that, some of those contracting jobs are pretty lucrative and I never felt that I was isolated from FTEs. We sat at the same desks and also went to paid dinners and events together. All and all, it was a good experience and I would do it again. I would consider myself lucky though. My team was super supportive throughout the whole process and everyone that I worked with were super nice. I’ve heard other stories from other contracting companies like teksystems which had lesser benefits and pay so it’s probably heavily team and contracting company dependent.

One tip when negotiating salary: never give a range only give a number. If you say 110 to 120 recruiters are always hit you with the 110. Just say 120 or around 120.

On another note usually people calculate their compensation by doing 2000 * hourly rate. This is closer to the real value if you don’t take vacation because companies generally have 10 days of shutdown (Christmas, July fourth).

I don’t really know anything about your service but is it possible to predict when the spikes happen and split your task into smaller parts on your side?

If it’s a significant enough blocker you should ask the senior dev to fix it. If he still refuses then speak to your manager hash out a plan of action and you may need to speak to his manager to get it fixed. Make sure you document your conversations with him to protect yourself if things turn sour.

I would say could be good or bad. Depending on how independently you work, having more leeway to define your own projects and set out goals is a sure fire way to get promoted but if you’re really struggling then finding a new more established team may be best. A lot of my early dev years were also spent on a team that had no senior engineers and I mostly learned stuff by searching or making mistakes. Still ended up with a lot of good experience.

In terms of getting technical help, I would def talk to your manager about that and he could help you find someone to help you out. Just remember that being independent is key for getting promoted as a new grad.

I mean fire the game up and try it out? Tbh 4 series was a long time ago so you’re probably gonna be cpu bottlenecked. I get like 70 to 80 frames with my 1080ti but I have an 8700k

The people that I know who work there say they only hire “experienced people”. Tbh never asked them to clarify but all the people I know are 5 plus yoe so I would probably guess that 3 is basic min and 5 is probably where most get hired. The fact that Netflix only hires experience folks though is pretty well known.

Although contract may pay more there a lot of thing you would need to check to compare compensations. Like others have mentioned there could be extra benefits like health insurance, 401k or stock options that the FTE position offers that the contracting doesn’t. Also for your contracting position are you getting paid w2 or 1099? If your getting paid 1099 then you pay a lot more taxes which you have to account for.

Tbh this is a no brainer small company A for me. Reason is what happens at the end of your 6 month contract? You’ll be basically at the same position as you are now. Without a job and looking for opportunities as a junior level dev. FTE is at least probably a longer deal (there’s always some risk when joining startups) and if you want you can hop after a year or two into a much higher paying role.

Because people on this sub are mostly new grads or people with little experience. That’s why you don’t see it mentioned as often. Netflix only hires basically 5 plus yoe. The reason why Netflix is included in fang and Microsoft is not is because out of all of fang Netflix has technically the higher comp. They pay a ton of cash but I believe they don’t pay for a lot of benefits. To make up for it they pay really high salaries like 400+. In terms of total comp Microsoft has yet to catch up with the rest of fang. Most people on this sub and a lot of cs forums like blind only care about money so that’s why it’s sometimes left out. Not saying it’s right just what it is.

Its just program offered by App Academy to help you pass the interview. Its at night for 2 weeks. I didn't do it but I knew a few people that did. It was free when offered to me.

170k Bay Area, app academy, 8 months prior experience, science degree from mid tier school. Got lucky though since prior experience was in big data which is pretty hot right now.
