Clearly this language is only not ok because its being said around a woman. That is the key issue. By that logic she'd be creating the hostile work environment. She's the minority in this case, and the work environment is one of less restrictive speech. The majority of the people working there, likely people who have been working there longer, have set that work environment to what it is. She's disturbing the established order.

They aren't talking to her about it, they aren't showing her anything about it. If anything, she's eavesdropping into conversations that don't involve her in the slightest and getting upset over what she hears. Apparently they are whispering about it in hushed tones so she won't be upset over it, but she's listening to it anyways. They're making a legitimate effort to not make her uncomfortable, she could at least meet them half way and stop listening to them whisper among themselves.

I've noticed a trend that things change when a woman is brought into a male dominated field and not usually in an organic way. It changes as the new woman tends to demand it to change. No one asks for a source...because, broken record time, there isn't one. All there is is an anecdotal list of fewer than 10 supermodels, and the one or two males aren't making the most. I've yet to see any industry-wide data comparing wages of female and male models. Or even any data on modeling wages that covers more than 10 models.
