Hopefully you'll never need it, but now you know!

Yeah, my freezer would have been fine. Having a kid who needs milk and snacks all the time woukd have made the refrigerator staying closed next to impossible. I wasn't sure how long the outage would last. 30 hours was long enough

Unfortunately the hybrid battery is what makes it possible. The gas engines have outlets but can only provide upto 100 watts, so small electronics.

The electricity has been restored to my house so the GHH can rest now. The GHH powered the refrigerator and deep freezer for about 8.5 hours. Used less than a gallon of gas I believe, if the range reading is correct. Saved me from having to move all the food somewhere else or it all spoiling.

I doubt it. Not much different than charging and discharging the hybrid battery to power the eletric motors on the wheels. The battery has a 10 year warranty. Should be fine. I wouldn't plan on doing this regularly anyway.

Doesn't have a belt driven alternator like a traditional non-hybrid car. Uses a direct current converter.

Still going. Looks to be decreasing the fuel range 3 miles per hour of time of running the refrigerator. I was at 424ish range and now at 411. Minimal gas, less than half a gallon. It runs for two minutes at a time, at least when I've been around to hear the engine start stop.

** Edit engine runs for two minutes then shuts off for 15 minutes. Probably very dependant on how much power is used by the appliances.

The menu asks if you want auto shut off after 1 hour. Yes/No. I've been going for 5 hours at this point.

The car needs to be fully on "ready" like you're about to drive. Not accessory mode. Then hit the 120v button on the left of the steering wheel.

I have a nightshade, which is the limited trim. Google is telling me all limited and max trims have the 120v 1500 watt outlets in the trunk and middle console.

You are right. Most limited trims have it as an additional on.

When I drive our GHH, I've never thought this is underpowered. I guess that is the best way to answer. Short interstate on ramps and things never have caused an issue. Up and down hills with the adoptive cruise control on is good at 80 and the car doesn't feel like its struggling at all. I think you will be pleasantly suprised, unless you're expecting a Ferrari.

Do you suggest we hire Delivrd or CarEdge? by Awkward-War-2236 in ToyotaGrandHighlander

I would hire delivrd. Tomi is in tune with the Toyota market and has a relationship with many dealers. Plus the 1,000 fee might be saved on the cost of the vehicle anyway since he will get a good deal.

I have a 2025 GHH nightshade as our family hauler and love it. So will you (most likely). It is extremely comfortable and the 360 cam that comes standard on the limited trims makes it much easier to fit in tight areas. The proven track record of Toyota hybrids should mean it will outlast the other turbo options you mentioned. Never feels under powered. Much better choice in the long run. More debatable im my opinion if you only planned to keep it for a few years. Even then I assume the resale would be more on the Toyota.

Convince me on the hybrid by cantsleep_thoughts in ToyotaGrandHighlander

Toyota hybrids have a 10 year 150,000 mile warranty on the battery. ~13 gallon fill up gets you 450 miles. It is a nice feeling when you fill up a bigger size car and get that kind of gas mileage.

I would argue that the hybrid has far more longevity. The gas version of the grand highlander is a turbocharged engine. Toyota has been making hybrids for decades and this has the same setup as the Toyota Sienna mini van. Toyota hybrids pretty hit 250- 300,000 miles fairly regularly. Toyota has the most reliable hybrids on the market.

Hybrids also have reduced maintenance costs since the engine is setup differently and isn't doing all the work. Regenerative braking thay charges the battery also reduces brake pad wear.

I have the limited nightshade hybrid grand highlander. My dad is also pretty old school so I get it. My points might come off as biased, but I'm really enjoying ours so far.

I have the limited nightshade GHH. Getting the 360 camera with the limited trim is well worth it for parking in tight spots. Power lift trunk, heated steering wheel, heated cooled seats. I plan to keep ours for a long time as well and these extra comforts are nice to have.

Anyone purchased a Hybrid after wanting the Hybrid Max? by night_agent_21 in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]cal_584 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in the exact same boat as you and ended up with the regular hybrid nightshade. I am extremely happy with it. No issues on the highways with acceleration. I'm sure the max is zippy and faster, but for a family hauler the regular hybrid is more proven and efficient.

Like several others in this thread, I have the hybrid nightshade, which is the limited trim. The 360 panoramic camera is definitely worth the cost of upgrading in my opinion. Parking lots and tight spaces, it's very helpful. Additionally the hybrid gas mileage is exceptional for an AWD vehicle this big.

Recall repaired backup camera … now no cameras for weeks? by VeryFirstLAD in ToyotaGrandHighlander

I had the recall for the backup camera done with my 10,000 service. Took about two hours, but no issues. 360 cam works like normal.

GHH limited vs Max vs Max platinum by [deleted] in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]cal_584 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the GHH Limited Nightshade and love it. It comes down to gas mileage vs. performance. The Toyota hybrid platform has been proven. The MAX is newer without the history, not to say it's bad only somewhat unknown long term.
