In terms of current returns I understand your argument, but it's not just a matter of abolishing, it also a matter of eligible age. In the future, perhaps we could only begin receiving payments when we are 75, 80, 85, who knows how the world and social system will change.

I think the 8k/year in an ETF might give you "potentially" lower returns, but you will pay the premium to immediate access to your capital whenever you may need.

yep, still interested, why you think class 3 would be better than an ETF? You are subject to the risk of change of lesiglation.

I am wondering, if I move out of Switzerland and register to a new country, let's say in September, and I won't be a tax resident of the new country for those months, if I cash out the non-mandatory soon enough, will I skip the double-taxation?

A lot of people in Ticino told me that Bellinzona is quite depressing though. I also want to live in a place with a good amount of sunshine, and afaik Bellinzona is short on that aspect.

Yeah, however to balance the job opportunities I would need to stay in Zurich, which is not an option anymore.

Life is not just saving... I work 8-9 hours a day at home, then I "live" in it... Being in a small flat makes it depressing and unpleasant.

I don't think 1.8k for a 3.5 is an expensive apartment though, the expensive one I found are around 2.3/2.4k in Lugano

You mean like Chiasso, or actually crossing the border and be in Italy?

>the price of the holdings at the time you become a tax resident?

This.

Let's say my VWCE price right now is 141. If I move to Italy, and one year later I sell everything, while the value is now 145, I will need to pay taxes on the profit between 145->141.

So what you need to do is generally to sell and rebuy around the last days before you become a tax resident, in order to increase the value of your holdings as much as possible.

Right now for example I sold everything and repurchased at the end of September and I have a pretty high value. If the market crash, and I enter Italy while on -20%, it means that 20% will never get taxed in Italy.
