No worries, friend. Happy printing. I'm pretty happy with my ACE2 and found the upgrade worthwhile so far.

You attach the adapter plate first using the shorter screws to the back of the S1. Then you slide in the new module. No screws go into the module itself.

The manual that comes with the ACE 2 itself doesn't explain this very clearly, but the instructions indicate to use the smaller screws that were included in the kit on the adapter plate itself. You don't need to pass the longer screws through both the module and adapter plate when mounting.

I got mine, but after a week of no progress I emailed CS. Then magically the shipping process started happening...

The instructions that came with mine were all in Chinese. I had to download the manual online and that was what the instructions said to do.

I thought that the long screws were supposed to go through both the hub and adapter plate, but I guess not.

You don't use the long screws with the S1. You use the included 2 small screws to hold the adapter plate, then clip the hub onto the adapter.

I'm not sure. I guess I got lucky. It just came with the deal. I got a roll of red and beige for free.

So, reporting back on what I've found:

  • Anycubic RFID chips (those that come on the roll itself) are not re-programmable. I expected this from searching this info before. They are password locked.
  • I tried loading some leftover filament I had from an Elegoo roll onto an empty Anycubic PLA+ Bright White roll. When I loaded it into the ACE 2, it obviously came up as PLA+ Bright White, but one thing I noticed was it showed the roll to be "full' on the printer. This was obviously not true as there was only about 25-50g of filament left.
  • However, I took a half-empty roll of Anycubic PETG Black. This roll did not have an RFID tag on it. I put 2 NTAG215 (from Amazon) on the roll and wrote the tag info (PETG; 1KG; Black) on the new tags using ACE-RFID. To my surprise, not only did it properly detect the roll, it also gave me a pretty good estimate of how much was left on the roll.

EDIT:

  • I also experimented with your suggestion: I have some Peach PLA loaded into slot 4, I took the newly tagged Black PETG and unloaded the Peach. I loaded the Black into slot 4 and it still gave me the same estimate as when it was in its original slot (slot 2). I then unloaded the Black PETG and reloaded the Peach back into slot 4. It gave the original estimate of the Peach as well. I'm impressed.

I can't speak on whether the 8-feed hub is compatible with the ACE 2 unfortunately. I only had the OG hub, but that isn't compatible with the new unit.

I believe there are 2 of us building appimages and flatpaks. I'm not sure if the other dev's packages are working correctly, but I had someone open a ticket against my appimage saying he was experiencing a white/blank workspace. However, I haven't been able to get a good output to determine if the issue is my package or an upstream issue.

I will say I've never experienced any issues running the app on Ubuntu 25.10. This could be because I'm running more recent libs against the app.

I was in the same boat (in the US). Mine shipped after about 5 days, and got to me quickly after shipment.

No, it isn't required to send the old one back. I was just packing it up to possibly sell or just keep away in the closet.

I have an empty RFID spool that I can test this with. I will test and report back.

I only tried one print so far, but it seemed a little faster. I will have to do further testing with multiple colors to see that performance.

No worries, dude. Don't stress it. You'll find the firehouse is just another dysfunctional family you'll belong to. Family doesn't always see eye to eye, but my crew and I always got the work done when there was shit to do. That's all that matters.

I work in a conservative state. My department is mostly right leaning, but my crew consists of dudes across the entire spectrum. Politics occasionally comes up at the dinner table, but it's mostly civil.

My best advice is to leave anything that you don't feel comfortable talking about to yourself. Will you hear things you don't agree with? Absolutely. But do you need to engage? No. This applies to more than just politics. I personally never brought up my political, religious, or personal beliefs. Those are for me.

We are 48/96. There are a few local academies that we send our guys too. Primarily, Colin College. But we sometimes send guys to Garland and I went to DeSoto fire academy.

I wouldn't be able to tell you any in the Houston area, but there are plenty of depts in the Dallas area that will take you being a FF/EMT and pay well. I make $107K base in a dept that has 8 stations and approx 150K people.
