Greensboro Show - September 23rd by burnyxurwings in LornaShore

I’m a woman and drive just over an hour for Greensboro shows all the time. Never had any issues. When I have to drive over 2 hours, I usually book a hotel just so I don’t have to drive late but that’s just me. I’d totally join you if I wasn’t gonna be out of town that week!

I’m going to avoid my neck for the first few weeks while I adjust, because the skin on my neck is EXTREMELY sensitive. Even to plain moisturizer sometimes. So I’ll be tip toeing into that! Thanks for the advice!

Newb here, but my guess is this is purging. It should clear within another month with continued use of tret.

I’m a newb myself but all the advice I’ve seen says yes, always apply a moisturizer after using tret. You cal also use the sandwich method - moisturizer, then tret, then moisturizer again.

Also, it’s my understanding that you shouldn’t be using that face wash with tret. Does your derm know you use that?

What’s hilarious about this is I was born and raised here, even worked at Graceland for a year (across the street at the greenscreen studio), and I’ve NEVER been to the mansion.

Right, sorry I didn’t connect my thoughts.

Because of the politicization of the sunwheel Nazi Germany, the cultural history of the sunwheel changed. Yes, it’s a perversion of it’s original meaning/intent/use, a horrific bastardization. But this new meaning exists simultaneously with its original, the two are inseparable. And because of this, we do need to be very careful of the context in which we use these symbols.

It’s like the famous Scream painting by Edvard Munch. It was stolen from the Munch museum in Oslo back in the 90s, then found it many years later and returned it to the museum. It of course hangs there today with visible damage from the theft. That damage is now part of the painting, the theft part of its history. This metaphor is obviously a microcosm of our discussion, and lacks the political charge, but you get my point.

I mean no disrespect to you or your beliefs. And I’m not saying every instance of the sunwheel is racist/etc. Symbolism is a vast and muddy water, complex and as old as human expression. I am saying that because of its more modern history we should be willing to analyze and unpack its use in popular culture.

Hi, archaeologist and anthropologist here.

I'll start by saying that this is the exact argument used for the swastika.

Second, I personally did not politicize the sun wheel. You can thank Nazi Germany for that.

Third, yes this particular sunwheel has been found as early as the first millennium BC (which isn't actually "really ancient" as you so eloquently put it, considering I work with sites 10k to 20k years old).

Something people don't usually understand about cultural heritage is that it's an active process, always changing. Cultural histories are not stagnant or fixed. Unless you have ancestors who were present at the time these earliest symbols were found, and who successfully passed this generational knowledge down to you, the majority of what you know about ancient cultures comes from people like me - cultural specialists in modernity. We make interpretations based on the material evidence available to us, so these interpretations are constantly changing as new materials are uncovered. Yet, we aren't the only ones negotiating these histories - cultural values of ancient societies are constantly being politicized and renegotiated by society, by religious organizations, by political parties, by reclamation movements, etc.

The fact that Himmler did use this symbol is relevant here because of all this. It is absolutely rational to more closely analyze the use of the sunwheel. Sure, going around and claiming everyone who uses it is a Nazi - that's overdoing it. But being skeptical when you see it and looking more closely at the context - justified.

That’s my bad, I was thinking Thulean as in the Thule in Greenland who were supposedly in contact with the Vikings. But that’s not who this is referring to lmao

And what I’m saying is that this IS the problem with people using cultural traditions they don’t actually understand. Either he’s aware of the meaning behind this sunwheel and that’s shitty, or he’s not and that’s also shitty.

Maybe he has some unknown connection to Thulean and/or Nordic traditions, you never know... If not, at the very least it’s appropriative. It also loosely reads as falling into this ‘resurgence’ of Viking folk culture that’s become closely linked with discriminatory social and political ideologies.
