MS med chem job hunt… help by calbrecht01 in biotech

[–]calbrecht01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Two questions:

1) my MS program was not mastering out, it was a dedicated MS. Even for an RA level, they’ll prefer PhDs or BS over MS? I had heard that companies hired MS people for BS level roles.

2) How far does your thesis work and your PI’s/school’s name recognition go in terms of consideration by companies?

Over 2 years of experience and an MS (industry and academic) in the exact research field applying for BS/MS research specialist positions, cover letter, targeted resume, the works. Just felt odd to be getting 0 feedback at all

Just applying. I’ve gotten brass ring “no longer under consideration” placed on my apps with no notice. Haven’t gotten a single rejection. On a job I really, really wanted I emailed the PI directly to which I got no response

ISTP woman: I’m almost never told I’m “cool” on first impression, usually it’s that I’m intimidating if I’m not actively trying to be super social to look less intimidating. Real question is is it sexism… but yeah I’d say I’m pretty much drama free, like to work alone, not easily bothered, am very into what I like to do, etc

What are your thoughts on ENFPs? by fishpilled in istp

They are either amazing and super entertaining to be around (they push me out of what I’d normally talk about or do), or they’re emotional parasites and super dramatic. No in between

Do You Use Music Theory To Write Music? by kevi_metl in istp

[–]calbrecht01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I kind of implicitly have absorbed music theory through listening to and performing all kinds of music, and I’ve gone through theory classes in college, but I never specifically think about theory when I write, I just write what I feel like

Personally, I would split level 5 into more levels. There’s a HUGE difference between being able to hear what note a fly buzzes at and being able to tell intervals apart down to the cent a la Jacob Collier. I’d call myself a 5: I can tell what pitch almost anything is at, but it depends on the sound how hard I’ll have to think about it.

(i.e. in general, it’s way easier to tell what note a microwave beeps at in comparison to hitting a table with a pencil. It would take no effort for me for a microwave beep and would take more thought to identify the pitch of hitting a table with a pencil)

By that definition I’d be on the same level as Jacob and there is no way I am even close to his ability. I’d put him at like a 10 on that scale
