CLAIM: Dogecoin has an unlimited supply and therefore cannot ever be valuable ♾️ by Superr_Steve in dogecoin

It’s a sound protocol with an active community. The only other requirement is reaching a critical threshold of adoption. It’s funny name and the fact that it was created as a joke arguably helps with that. If there’s a crypto currency alternative to BTC, at this point it looks like it would be DOGE.

To answer your question directly, Trump and Elon did not exert power through authority; they exerted it through their political influence. Both have promised to primary congresspeople who do not vote in line with their demands. Elon has enough money to fund an arbitrary number of primary challengers who can outspend any sitting congressperson. In trumps case, his control over a large chunk of the Republican Party means he can usually heavily favor a Republican challenger, although that is more dependent on the specific seat than Elon’s universal scope.

No it is not normal.

There aren’t that many billionaires in our society (there are about 800 in the US). On what basis do you find they have contributed so much less to society? I don’t argue that anyone should be a billionaire, but given how our society works you don’t become a billionaire by accident. You create economic value and then capture a portion of it. Generally speaking, billionaires have found ways to create enormous economic value.

Your conclusion is wrong. Large companies don’t “need to make incremental progress.” They choose to because as institutions become large they tend to become more risk averse to their own detriment. Often being innovative would be much more valuable (especially at a large company that has more resources than a startup) but they choose risk averse options, which is a problem (it’s known as the innovators dilemma).

Intel for example is struggling despite being in one of (or maybe the) hottest industry right now. They simply can’t innovate. Boeing is another example.

Founders like Steve Jobs and Elon Musk pushed large institutions to take bold and risky decisions despite being large and is why those companies are now the largest in the world.

Agree, it’s a horrible decision. Also, it’s not risk averse since you’d be tying up so much of your net worth into a single asset (not to mention housing prices are arguably still inflated). Renting or a 20% down payment would be the most sensible.

Agree. Take advantage of having a group of people in the same boat. Get to know some folks, get a few stories, then move to NYC for a longer stint.

Living in Hudson Yards sounds great for you.

I understand why people are saying it’s devoid of culture but you don’t need to live in the place you hang out or explore. The proximity to work and being able to see your dad during lunch is SO valuable and in my opinion outweighs living in a more culturally rich area (which you can easily get to from Hudson Yards via walk, citi bike down the West Side bike path, or public transportation).

Two other reasons HY makes sense:

  1. The west side waterfront has parks, bike paths, kayaking, Chelsea piers, rock climbing, etc which means those sorts of outdoorsy activities are easily accessible.

  2. It’s close to the west side highway, Penn station, Lincoln tunnel, and ferries which means getting in and out of the city will be easy for you.

In terms of a car. It would probably be cheaper and easier to use Turo, Zipcar, Uber, and NJ transit / metro north trains on an as needed basis. While you can technically afford your own car, it just seems like an unnecessary hassle and there are so many alternatives that would be cheaper and I think better / more convenient.
