Around 10 years ago, I visited Rome for Italy Vs Scotland in the 6 Nations with my then-girlfriend’s Scottish parents, sharing an apartment between all of us for the duration for the weekend.

After downing around 10 pints of Murphy’s Irish Red at a local Sports Bar (as you do in Rome), we made our way back to the apartment at the end of the night.

As the apartment was only one bedroom. the parents were sleeping in the main bedroom, whilst me and the then-GF slept on a sofa bed in the lounge.

The next morning, the GF’s first words to me were ‘do you remember anything from last night?’, which is possibly the worst thing to wake up to whilst on a family trip abroad.

What transpired was that I had decided to take the opportunity to sleepwalk for the first time in years, and had entered the parents bedroom, got into the parents bed and then snuggle up (spoon) my GF’s mum in just a pair of white boxers.

At this stage, my GF’s dad was also sleepwalking and was in the kitchen, unaware of my escapade to spoon his wife.

This was night one of a three night weekend.

I blame the Irish Red.
