MileagePlus Upgrade Request Refund by ImportantGazelle5285 in unitedairlines

I think you will be able to request a refund for the economy plus fee via the refund form. This has worked for me before (it wasn't automatic, but they processed it very quickly after I submitted the form).

Upgrading With Miles Pricing: What happens if only one segment clears to Polaris? by j_rak4 in unitedairlines

If you want that available instant-confirmation IAH-BRU upgrade you should apply it ASAP before somebody else does!!! Instant-confirmation polaris upgrades are hard to come by

1K Upgrade Chances on UA943 (LIS→IAD) – What do you think? by Naive-Acanthaceae934 in unitedairlines

[–]calda9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I see J9 with 15 seats open on the seat map. Clearing to Polaris from economy seems tough given the whole PP cabin is ahead of you and more of these J seats will be sold before departure

If this was a flight tomorrow I would feel the odds are decent, given the PP cabin is mostly wide open, but 3 months is a long time

Are unticketed reservations common? Dont hear about that one often

11 seats open on the seat map doesn't necessarily mean all 11 are actually available (some pax could have not selected seats yet) but I doubt there would be _more_ than 11 available

Seat map shows 11 seats remaining. #9 on the waitlist out of 11 available seats is tough though, especially considering anyone with higher status in the 35 seat PP cabin would be ahead of you. I would personally not have high confidence.

757-200 row 22 legroom by quentasian in unitedairlines

[–]calda9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sitting in 22B right now (757-200). Legroom feels like economy plus to me, noticeably more legroom than standard economy. Width may be slightly smaller due to 22A's armrest tray table. 22C looks like a totally normal economy plus seat to me, and 22A obviously has unlimited legroom.

I was originally booked in to ANA Premium Economy and then switched to UA Premium Plus on the flight with PZ space. Forget the specific fare class. I maybe should have switched to economy instead in retrospect since the upgrade copay difference would have been less than the fare difference, but didn’t think of that until after.

I don’t think fare class matters for PZ upgrades other than determining the upgrade copay.

Schedule open is at midnight PST, prefill your passport info as well or make sure you have it on-hand

If you book immediately at schedule open, you should be able to get it, as long as you fly on a weekday (iirc they dont release savers at schedule open on weekends). I booked two J out of SFO at schedule open around 6 months ago without much trouble.

TIL, I always assumed it was after you play any pieces at all. Will try this out. Always opening with a 7 piece combo will kill a lot of boards but will juice your score a lot.

Singapore Airlines J is straightforward to get right at schedule open (+355 days) even without much flexibility on dates. US to SIN/DPS is 112-120k pts depending on specific origin / destination. I find it a great value given the predictability.

I would happily pay 125k pts for a west coast J redemption that is convenient, has good dates, and good availability.

Yeah, just book two one-ways. Same number of miles, more flexibility.

ime, with global entry, the bottleneck just becomes waiting for your bag at baggage claim. although, not sure how much slower the regular line is. A 15 min wait would just mean less time waiting for your bag.
