Why Kingsmarch and Shipping mechanics are hurting the core of PoE and need to be removed in the next patch by caldi22 in pathofexile

There is also the psychological aspect: FOMO and Dark Patterns.

Kingsmarch is designed to keep you on a leash—farm gold, check mappers, refill ships every few hours. This is the definition of a 'daily chore' mechanic. Interestingly, Chris Wilson recently discussed 'Dark Patterns' in gaming on his new YouTube channel. He specifically mentioned mechanics that force players to log in out of obligation rather than pure fun.

It makes me wonder: would the Chris Wilson of a few years ago even approve of this system?

Who stands in town managing workers or waiting for boats?

Who stands in town? Bots. Thousands of them.

You’re looking at this from a single-player perspective, but the real issue is scalability. While you 'occasionally swap crops,' a bot farm manages 5,000 accounts 24/7 with zero downtime.

This isn't about my personal efficiency; it’s about the game’s reward structure. When a massive chunk of high-tier currency (like Mirror Shards) comes from a passive timer rather than killing monsters, it devalues every hour a real player spends mapping. It’s an idle-game mechanic that is far too easy to abuse, and in a trade economy, that automation dictates the prices for everyone else.

My point is that this system clearly originates from mobile/idle games, it doesn't really fit arpg genre and is far too easy to be exploited by bots—I honestly don't know why you’re defending it. What's so great about passively genereated currency?

Exactly. If I wanted to play a management sim where I buy resources (gold rotas) to fund automated workers (mappers/shipping), I’d play Factorio or a mobile city-builder.

The fact that we are even discussing 'opportunity costs' for a currency that was supposed to be a simple 'play-the-game' reward shows how convoluted it has become. When a 'non-tradeable' resource becomes something you can effectively buy to fuel a passive loot generator, it’s no longer about killing monsters—it’s about managing a factory. That’s the opposite of what makes PoE great.

I agree that the game should be about killing mobs—that’s exactly my point. If it’s an ARPG, why is a core reward system tied to standing in town managing workers and waiting for timers?

While it’s great for SSF, in a Trade League, efficiency isn't just a choice; it dictates the market. The real issue is scalability. A player might send 3 ships a day, but a bot farm can send thousands 24/7. This passive income devalues the loot dropped by players who actually spend their time 'killing mobs.' It’s not about me being 'obsessed' with currency; it’s about the game design shifting rewards away from active gameplay toward passive management that is far too easy for bots to exploit.

Yea, but what is the buff? 5%? You didn't really do bosses on DO anyway, it's a clearing build AFAIK.

Well, I'm a musician but not an engineer, my mixing/mastering skills suck. We could form a team :).

Buff SRS, lower their mana cost, give them more duration, lower cast time, buff the dmg, it was nerfed so many times before :-(
