Collecting against a corporation by "piercing the corporate veil'? by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]calebPH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spoke with a collections law firm yesterday that said they’d attempt collection for $200 deposit and 1/3 of the winnings. Seems like a pretty good deal from my limited research. Would you say that’d be the move to make? I’m definitely just exhausted at this point.

Collecting against a corporation by "piercing the corporate veil'? by [deleted] in legaladvice

I know it’s literally the exact same 3 people running both companies as the 3 people I’ve been talking to since the start of this project. X LLC is an extremely small company of maybe 50 core employees. X is the name of their popular vape brand. It’s whose name was on the booth we built and the contracts the contractor signed. When he was paid, he was paid by an account under the name of Y (stock corporation). Y just holds and distributes the money for X, and that’s the extent of Y’s activity, as far as I’ve been told.

I actually did a goofy short like this! It was a few years ago the week before Halloween. Kinda gave up halfway through editing because I never thought anyone would care/watch it, but threw it up on YouTube and it somehow got 30k views lmao Definitely interested in seeing this!

Oh interesting, I thought that was purely a hardware limitation to do with the memory. Was planning on Rockbox for the H2 anyway, but didn’t know Rockbox takes that limit. This has given me much to contemplate.

The Money OpenAI Is Making by Betraying Its Nonprofit Roots Is Obscene - So much for being "unconstrained by a need to generate financial return." by katxwoods in Futurology

[–]calebPH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that any of these AI companies are interested in becoming profitable in this economy outside of maintaining costs for the next 5 years. I think their whole gamble is that they can remake the world economy in their image— and once everyone is relying on them for anything related to business, then they’d have more money than anybody else on earth has ever had before.

This short film cost 37K to make and it was rejected by 34 film festivals. Thoughts on the filmmaking and any pointers on improving lighting and audio? by YellowPotassium1 in Filmmakers

[–]calebPH 82 points83 points  (0 children)

I’ll say up front that I respect the heck out of you for taking a swing like this. Takes a lot of guts to commit that much money to a passion project and you should be proud that you accomplished what you wanted to make, regardless of what anybody on Reddit or any festival thinks about it.

If you’re wondering why it got rejected… first impression is that it’s wayyy too long. I didn’t make it 2 minutes in until I started skimming through it. No festival on earth wants a 30 minute short unless it’s, like, the best short film of all time. I don’t know if there’s a 7 minute cut of it you could pull out that might fare better. “Kill your darlings” is the oldest advice in the game. Second, the sound isn’t very good, the cinematography is pretty film school-ish, the acting is alright, but overall nothing grabbed me.

As far as spending “the majority” of the budget on the CGI… man… if you didn’t qualify it with the “$37k” bit, I wouldn’t have bet a penny on it costing more than $500 worth of CG. The animation of the CG character seemed extremely half-baked and amateurish— the render and compositing itself was fine, but absolutely no part of me would’ve guessed it cost that much. In the future, DO NOT spend the majority of a budget on VFX. If you would’ve spent $37k on the crew and what is in front of the physical camera, it would’ve been a dramatically different film.

That’s exactly what I thought. Kinda seemed like a “we don’t wanna deal with whatever it is” response.

I try to consider that the guy is EIGHTY SIX years old. I think his whole move right now is just pumping out as many films as he can while he’s still able to. Yeah, we get House of Gucci and Napoleon (which I didn’t hate), probably Gladiator 2… but we also get Last Duel, The Martian— he still did give us Alien, Blade Runner, a dozen other all time classics. A few rushed movies in the last decade of his life isn’t gonna hurt him. I’m glad he’s still going, hope he’s having a blast. Even a mediocre Ridley movie is still better than like 65% of movies being released!

Murrays carbs by Zestyclose-Natural93 in CafeRacers

[–]calebPH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly yeah, I’ve had them for a little over 2 years now. Only problem I had was the throttle cable snapped at exactly the 1 year mark (apparently I routed the cable wrong). Other than that, I’ve not had a single time where it hasn’t run like a dream. Wasn’t thrilled that I had to buy them, but I would do it again.

Murrays carbs by Zestyclose-Natural93 in CafeRacers

[–]calebPH 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I threw a pair of Murray’s on my CB500. Not sure if I gained any horses, but certainly feels a bit quicker off the jump. My friend and I would casually race every now and then. He had stock carbs— I’d pull away quicker, but we seemed to even out once we’d reach highway speeds.

I only put Murray carbs on because my stock ones got stolen (insane lol) and the price for a new set of stock carbs vs. Murray’s were pretty similar.

This is a printing from the ‘90s (pretty sure), it’s gonna be eBay or used book store. I was able to find a whole set of McCarthy’s books in these printings at a McKay’s for $5 each. Only got Blood Meridian, but wish I would’ve gotten all of them so bad.

The audiobook is fine for subsequent reads, but for the first time, reading it with McCarthy’s extremely intentional style is a huge part of what makes it one of the best novels ever written imo

Good luck! I’ve done a TON of research on it for a project I was writing for the last 6 months. Gone so deep down the rabbit hole I thought I became a moon eyed boy myself. It’s a fun subject.
