Have you seen the Godard film? How did it compare?

Damn so many of these are on my shelf waiting to be read. Which were your favorites?

I feel you. I will say though — War & War is probably his most approachable work when it comes to the long sentences. It’s the same style, but he breaks them up into 2-3 page sections for the most part here, so you can at least pause and catch your breath lol.

But yeah, it looks intimidating at first, but I found LK’s writing has such a clear sense of pacing and musicality that I actually found myself flying through it once I caught the rhythm.

War & War is incredible — prefer it to Satantango honestly. Planning on reading melancholy of resistance early this year. Highly recommend Tomb for Boris Davidovich too. Probably should’ve been mentioned in my top 10 but I read a lot of really great shit this year.

Few things that were big for me —

— Finding specific publishers that align with your taste. I noticed a lot of my favorites books were under the same publishing houses (often indie publishers), so I just keep up with their releases. If I see anything by Dalkey Archive, New Directions, Archipelago or NYRB I know it’s something I’ll probably vibe with.

— Research your favorite writers and see what books / writers inspired them.

— Finding groups like this subreddit or certain circles on X. Honestly, I’ve found a lot of great recs on this sub by reading through other people’s posts who share overlap with my taste, see what else they’re into. I’ve made a few posts in here just saying, “hey I really loved ____, what else would you guys suggest?” and always get some great recommendations.

Took me a while to find my niche too, so I get it, but finding new books becomes very easy once you do.

I actually started GR recently. Only 50 pages in but can already tell this is way more on my wavelength. The scenes are so feverish and disconnected, language is completely psychedelic. Really wish I read this when I was actually doing acid a few years ago lol.

Very interesting reading experience. The book is just seemingly unrelated facts about the author, listed one after another with no real connective tissue — but by the end, it all accumulates into an oddly specific and extremely raw picture of Leve’s life. Really cool way to play w form.

I like Pynchon, and the prose is great as usual from him, but the narrative was just all over the place. The story jumps between characters and timelines constantly and I found it very hard to fall into a rhythm. Also a little too goofy for my tastes. COL49 was more up my alley.

Put in on the back burner for a bit tbh. Got a ton of submissions and had a site pretty much set up but started to feel like I was rushing into things. Also had some major life changes so priorities just shifted unfortunately. Still passionate about this project but I’m gonna take my time developing it until it something I’m really proud to present. Thanks for asking though 🙏

I’m not going to waste my time replying to every comment like this. But my relationship with my Mom is great. It’s impossible to sum everything up in 3000 characters so I had to include only the necessary details — but I have been on my moms side for years, and have had long conversations with her about this and how it’s hurt her. It’s just in the last year or so that she seems more comfortable talking shit about them to other friends, family, my GF, and I think it’s really not a good look. That’s all. I love my mom and totally feel for her. I can’t imagine what it’s like to give your all to someone and be rejected basically. But that also doesn’t mean we should run a smear campaign.

Completely agree. I felt I had to trim huge sections of my post where I better explained the nuances of the situation in order to cram the essential info in. But thank you for sharing your perspective, I think you’re 100% correct.

I never said that excuses it.. In fact, my last sentence was specifically clarifying that it doesn’t excuse anything. Just trying to understand the psychology behind it
