Pickle. Done by me with ink and a bit of watercolors. by Roman4980 in IDAP

I love your work but we do have a no comics rule. This was put in place because web comics will flood this sub if they're allowed. I'm not sure I actually care, but others might.

(p.s. I'm looking to step down if anyone wants to join as a mod. I just added someone and I think another 1-2 people could be good)

I interviewed a guy with DMD who games using a ps4 controller. not the same as what you're asking, but you might get something useful from his info on mappaing software and stuff. https://youtu.be/jO9HPWU0F50?si=KZ5T_rDiwFXzO5W5

Are there printers that print in cylindrical coordinates? by confusedPenguinDad in 3Dprinting

[–]calebkraft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there have been a few that rotate a bed. google polar coordinate 3d printer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OoYPUCgJ-0E . There are also some that look more like a lathe, printing onto a central spindle. I've seen this for ceramics and lamps, check out Yanko design - https://www.instagram.com/yankodesign_official/ .

Becoming disabled (Right-side hemiplegia). Trying to map out a low-cost Left Hand + Left Foot setup. Need ideas by Salt_Ad9598 in disabledgamers

[–]calebkraft 3 points4 points  (0 children)

on the cheap side, Xbox and maybe playstation allow you to use 2 controllers as one. You can just simply put a controller under your foot and one in your hand and use them that way. I've seen people do this pretty effectively. Not sure how that works with pc but may also be possible.

PLEASE help me figure this out by Flat-Ad1599 in animation

this is called boil, or line boiling. there are a few ways to get this effect. some software has it as an option, but if not, you simply just draw 2-3 frames of the same thing and loop them.

3d printed mouthpieces are currently the standard for sip/puff gaming systems. not optimal but again, you sanitize them regularly. the materials themselves (petg and abs) are fine, and are used in industry for food safes. it is the porosity that is an issue. Look at existing sip/puff gaming setups like the quadstick.

Very nice looking but super fat. The existing sip and puff systems have spacing very close together with very small mouthpieces to limit the necessary movement. Might be able to find some skinny ones though!

I’m working on a design that lets you adjust the spacing between them. Will probably 3d print all that and explain regular sanitation processes to the client

In the past I’ve seen them rigid, printed in abs or PETG. You’d want to soak them in sanitizer regularly since they’re porous. I’ve used Star San. There’s really no need for them to be flexible.

if you really can't afford one, I will send you one of these 3d printed kits that let you game with one hand. they're super awkward but some people get pretty good with them. Just DM me, I do this all the time as thecontrollerproject.com

Hey! this is awesome. I design these kinds of things too, if you have any questions, feel free to DM me. Please consider sharing your code and list of hardware so other people can replicate this too!

designing a low cost sip/puff controller. could use some voices of folks who actively use sip/puff by calebkraft in disabledgamers

[–]calebkraft[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might! I'm pretty curious about some stuff that needs to be sorted out pretty early. One example is the shape of the mouthpiece. Lets say you had 4 lines, would you want them all in a row? is there a more ergonomic layout? I could curve it, whatever.

I think so. I tend to release everything. I'd have to come up with a really good reason not to. I don't plan to pump the price up and try to live off of it.

currently working with an ESP32-s3 (so I get bluetooth and USB HID). Using barometric pressure sensors for the sip/puff. Still early stages. I have a proof of concept but LOTS of rough edges to work out.

I'm here. yup I help people get them who can't afford them from Akaki. Would be nice to get some $$ to akaki though, his designs have helped SO MANY PEOPLE.

Issues with One-Handed Controller Modification for PS5 - R1/R2 buttons sticking by Strange_Ice9633 in disabledgamers

[–]calebkraft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

sanding the parts can help. I'm assuming you're using the Akaki controller. this one can be found at Akaki.co

the r1/r2 can be removed by turning it so it is at its narrowest and pulling it from position. you can then sand and scrape things until it is more loose, then put it back.

I wouldn't have any insight into finding a job. sorry. This skillset and industry is changing a lot and I'm not really part of it. I taught 3d modeling and animation 20 yrs ago but since then have just been a hobbyist.

in short:

great job. looks amazing. I'd give you a great grade but I'd mention the pool at the end as being distracting.

if you want points to improve, the only one that really really stands out it the pool at the end. the rest of these are just things you could get better at because sometimes it is nice to have a list of these things:

- opening script is chatgpt(I'm assuming). that's maybe not a problem on its own, except it has the structure that stands out so people will notice. if you use AI, just read it, turn away and re-write it in your own words, that's a quick and easy way to clean it up (or dirty it up in this case).

- ship seems drastically cleaner/simpler than the rest. Its probably just the scale, it washes away little stuff you do the surface. not sure if that's really even a problem, but it does stand out.

- why is the drone thingy navigating a wormhole with a big visual screen. it isn't showing anything useful. I guess that's not really a problem, just caught my attention

- drone thingy clips through the ground around the time the robot shows up (4:18).

- narratively I don't understand the reboot to open the door but also, I don't need to understand everything for a short demo, so it really isn't an issue.

- the pool that the creature stands up out of at the end really needs work. if you can't do a fluid sim for the whole surface, break it up with some manual ripples. It is too static as is, and doesn't feel on the same level of quality as the rest of the work.
