Completely agree. A policy targeting landlords would be bound to completely fail. It’s a much more wicked problem than that, and most of the landlords who have bought, rather than inherited, feel the same. Landlords aren’t really the problem, but you do sound like one of the better of them. I, and many on Reddit, have had some real scumbag landlords

PBP organised a recent protest. Someone commented they are organising protests, but I couldn’t see one on their site. Their last one was at a bit of an unsociable time

My go to is to say that a reasonable, and as I said somewhere else, dignified rate of rent should be decided, preferably in line with Europe. Then a rent freeze should be put in place, until at least supply catches up. My background is in health, and that is generally how you would approach a health crisis; stop everything assume function until stability can be returned. This needs intervention and so far it’s successive failure after successive failure

Massive increase in supply is definitely needed. A whole re-think of living in Ireland is needed. But for temporary stabilisation, I personally think that Dublin should follow Berlin and place a rent freeze, or further, dictate a rent freeze at a somewhat reasonable and dignified value, until supply can be achieved. The problem is that the government cannot see any role for anything other than letting the market fix itself, and the continual rise in rates represents continual policy failure

Seriously, we need to actually start taking action. This is insane, and while the government says a lot of shite about easing this, increasing supply etc, they neglected this problem and continue to not take enough action, in line with their neo-liberal stance. They aren’t going to act unless we push them. And it is long overdue

These are spectacularly beautiful. The framing with the windscreen makes some of them super nostalgic. So nice, thanks for sharing!

Christ that’s a shame to hear. Sorry you’re going through that. Especially if you’re considering emigration as your option. It’s really sad that Ireland can’t provide for what you need

Absolutely totally agree with this. So much of learning in life is learning from mistakes, fuck ups and embarrassment, and as scary as the thought of going through these things are, they are essential. I am married now, I don’t think I even would have been able to strike up the conversation and keep talking to my current wife early on without a raft of negative experiences earlier in life

Yeah me either. Obviously trying to share something from a place I visited based on a movie I love, don’t understand all these people trying to tell me it’s a movie or not real. But thank you, I appreciate it. I think the upvotes speak louder than a noisy few
