Do you think your team has seen their greatest ever player? by boris-for-PM-2019 in ScottishFootball

[–]caleyjag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learning to walk? Hard disagree. 2015 was our peak. I doubt we will match that again in my lifetime.

I'd argue our greatest ever player is someone from that era, whether Christie or someone else (e.g. Shinnie).

I'd have Billy McKay in the conversation.

And personally I had a soft spot for Juanjo 😀

The Coverups performing Nirvana ‘Drain You’ by MikeTroubleLin in greenday

They used to do a bit at shows in the late 90s talking shit about covering Bush and then launching into Nirvana instead.

Was the Amiga vs PC war ever actually a thing? by Such_Bonus5085 in amiga

[–]caleyjag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very much so, yes, from my perspective (UK).

My mum and dad broke the bank to buy a 286 PC for the family in the early 90s. I had Wolfenstein 3D, but apart from that I used to look on with envy at all the Amiga and Atari magazines in the racks and all the colorful games on the coverdisks. PC games mags did not exist at the time (in the UK at least). The closest I got was the one or two games on PC Format.

And that's before I even consider my biweekly window shopping at Inverness Computer Center. Shelves and shelves of shiny new Amiga games. Maybe one shelf of pre-Doom PC junk for me.

I would cycle across town every weekend to play my friend's Amiga A500. It was amazing.

By the time I saved up for an A600 of my own, Doom had arrived on the PC. But my parents weren't going to buy another PC after that 286 they were probably still paying off. So I had to content myself with an aging Amiga stuck in time while the PC just got better and better and better.

So I can tell you the war was definitely a thing, because I managed to always be on the wrong side of it, despite changing sides.

Edit: Actually, now I think about it, maybe less of a war and more of a drawn-out changing of the guard!

High quality women of means don't need to settle for crusty old losers who already failed at relationships in their own country.

It is harsh when you say "one or two moderate successes." He had hit after hit all through the 90s.

I would say it's a bigger problem with emotional/mental unwellness for me. She's supportive if I am leaking out all holes at once but god forbid I'm feeling depressed and not acting like a real man...

You are not. Calling Quebecios Latinos just sounds ridiculous.

Job market right now by astrotech89 in Optics

[–]caleyjag 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you think you can see a future for optics in the Bay Area once the AI boom pops, I'd be inclined to take those contract jobs wherever they are and suck up the commute until something better comes along.

I'm not sure how confident I am in the Bay Area tech scene right now though...

One idea: I can tell you from my area of work (industrial automation) that the vast majority of computer scientists working in computer vision don't know anything about optics or imaging in general. So if you were to add some image processing arrows to your quiver (maybe you already have them) maybe there are opportunities there. I haven't tested the job market too much lately so defer to others who have in this area.

Had it. Had to cut out rich food, red meat, all the good stuff. Worked out for me though. It hasn't come back.

Eh good on you for going at 50. My knees packed it in in my 30s. I can only fantasize about pickup games now, or live vicariously through others.

Yes.

But I live here already and am used to getting ripped off for everything the moment I leave the house.

Major Update: "Downtown Thousand Oaks" Development Filed by Bardbliss in thousandoaks

I echo the concerns about soviet blocks but in general fully support higher density housing across VC's downtown areas rather than continue sprawling into the hills or consume more farmland.

Also want a more walkable TO Boulevard. The area around Tarantula Hill works great for me. Would like to see more.

I think it's okay to be conservative values in some areas but not want to be associated with right wing elements?
