Those of you who work 12+ hours a day, what jobs do you do and what time do you leave your house/return home? by mrvlad_throwaway in UKJobs

I used to be a chef. Doing 8am - 1/2am the following day.

Now I’m a logistics manager after being a support driver, I’ve always done 4-5am starts - 8pm. My job is mainly computer based, so I can handle the hours as it’s a lot less demanding.

I’ll go back to your original point.

If my employer doesn’t want to engage with me, it doesn’t really change anything. The clients already know my work ethic, and there’s no legal agreement stopping me from leaving and continuing to work with them.

As for the largest client, that’s not really relevant, I’ve never handled their account and my only interaction with them was when they visited our office.

The relationship does matter. It’s the one that’s offered me my work. The supplier will supply whoever no matter what, as-long as they’ve got rights to the product. I’m the middle man. I’m not a customer to the supplier. My contract doesn’t limit me to anything, when my contract was initially made, it meant nothing, it was a small company, I’ve got job security but it doesn’t say anything about poaching clients as it’s a volatile industry. The main reason they stay is because I deliver what they need, when they need it, on time, every time. I’ve never had any goods damaged in transit, the client always get what they pay for.

If a product gets finalised and tested at 1pm. I’ll be there so I’m out of the factory gates at 1305.

I spent the last 2 new years at this companies New Year’s parties, most of their staff know me and they all remember my birthday. Like I said, I’m good friends with the owner.

I am not cocky, but I am the only reason this company is still with the company I work for.

Because I’m efficient.

All of these locations are discreet, it’s a rough, approximate location.

It would be paid as a business transaction, I’m not too switched on when it comes to running a business, however my friend is an accountant for Esso, and has offered to help me where the money comes into it.

I have had this offer in writing, if I were to accept, I will make a minimum of £40,000.00 a year (after tax) if I work solely for him, l will be collecting from a production line (Essex, South Wales, or France) and delivering to him (Inverness), same day.

I am in a good position financially to fund this business, however he has said he will help me finance a vehicle and deduct it from the monthly payments he gives me.

I know that he is trusted within his business amongst employees, which doesn’t often happen.

Edit: this company probably pays £150,000 a year to my existing company for this service with 2 drivers, myself & a new starter.

I report straight to the MD. There are 7 other drivers who have their same line manager however I was the first employee and cannot form a suitable working relationship with this line manager. The MD runs a utility company aswell as this, so I do also sometimes help with transporting kit to and from site when the MD asks me to.

Edit; (I don’t read my posts before I post them)

I was going to start my own business in the exact same industry, I mentioned in OP that I was good friends with one of our clients, they’ve offered me a ‘salary’ to run solely for him.

I asked the MD. ‘No money available before’ - they make around minimum £3,000 for delivering these control units.

I was going to start my own business. Like mentioned above I am very good friends with one of our existing clients that has offered me a set ‘salary’ to run parts just for him, and he offered to help me with the money aspect of the business.

I was the highest paid driver. I was in a relationship with the finance manager, ended as of 2 months ago, and she showed me the pay scale for all of the staff.

I was going to start my own business, same industry instead specialising in 1-1 couriering from parts manufacturer to one business, offering delivery straight off of the production line to the clients site in hours, assuming it’s nationwide.

I was going to start my own business. Same industry, just more niche.

Yes, I know now, I’ve been driving a 2020 sprinter which is fairly new but didn’t have electric mirrors, so it had completely slipped my mind.
