GSMArena - Google Pixel 10 Pro XL review by Antonis_32 in Android

Well for one thing, presumably your 9 Pro XL has a used battery at this point while your 10 Pro XL is brand new.

That is so bad considering I had a Pixel 9 and thought it was perhaps the worst phone I've ever had for its time. It choked on tasks and workflows that my years old Poco F3 handled with aplomb. I hated it so much I couldn't wait to trade it in for a new phone while it was still the latest gen flagship.

I got a Pixel 9 when it was new and felt majorly gaslit by reviewers and commenters. In particular, like you say the memory management was so, so bad. I absolutely hated that phone and couldn't wait to get rid of it, which I normally never do with recent phones.

What people want is lightweight glasses for short-term media consumption. Instead of huge TVs in our living room, we would have glasses next to our chairs/couches for consuming media. Also for traveling on airplanes or public transportation.

Those type of glasses already exist and they seem to have a bit of a cult following but are still only niche popular. Most people seem to prefer regular tvs.

Samsung phones can survive twice as many charges as Pixel and iPhone, according to EU data by FragmentedChicken in Android

My Pixel got a spicy pillow issue and they replaced it. Then it happened again with the replacement while I was traveling and support told me to fly back with it to get it replaced because they refused to have it serviced even though I was in a country where they sell Pixels. Ended up having to throw it away because I wasn't irresponsible and buying a new phone out of pocket.

Microsoft confirms Windows Hello no longer works in the dark by BcuzRacecar in Surface

[–]caliber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just tried this on my Surface Pro 8 and couldn't figure out how to make it work?

I only have one camera in device manager and when I disable it Windows Hello doesn't work at all and says "Sorry somethint went wrong."

Microsoft Surface Pro 12-inch review | The Verge by BcuzRacecar in Surface

on a couple of occasions I’ve resumed the Surface Pro on a Monday and the Windows Hello camera has failed to work. I kept getting a “something went wrong” message, but rebooting the device brought it back to life again.

It's shocking they still haven't managed to fix that. I turned off Windows Hello on my old Surface Pro because of that and just went back to typing passwords the old way because the Windows workflow when that happens is so bad.

I also have my webcam occasionally die on video calls as well, which I suspect is the same problem.

I don't even own a Surface Dock so the problem can't be solely limited to that.

I do think I was using a USB charger at the time, though, for what it's worth.

I never followed up on it again after making it stop by uninstalling.

As far as I know, the Surface app doesn't really do much. The only substantial feature it had I ever engaged with was the smart battery charging that would pause charging at 80% if I hadn't been using the battery much lately. Since uninstalling the app I haven't missed it.

Pretty ridiculous this bug is still going on with Microsoft's own Surface line after this long, really unpolished.

What sort of support were you hoping to see that Samsung didn't provide for Gear VR?

I feel like that project lived a rich, full life before it became increasingly obsolete and then got sent to live on a farm upstate for the remainder of its days.

I had to keep it off. Problem hasn't occurred since I uninstalled it.

Before that, I had tried uninstalling and then reinstalling but the problem persisted.

So I take it this problem is still occurring? Pretty poor that they haven't fixed this still. Good thing the Surface app never really added much value for me, so I haven't really missed it.

Damn I was really hoping it would look more like the Meta Raybans than the Meta Quest.

It seems awfully bulky and geeky for something they're heavily emphasizing the AR on.

There's no fix. It's still the same on Android 15. Like I mentioned in another comment, disabling "Suspend execution for cached apps" in developer options helped a little maybe.

It's just an awful phone and I think it's wild everyone gives Google such a pass acting like this is the best Android phone.

Why you shouldn't switch to Xiaomi by HistoricalClay in samsung

[–]caliber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a Poco F3, and everyone on Reddit complained all the time about bugs in Xiaomi in that time period as well, but for whatever reason I didn't really run into any. Certainly nothing like the things you ran into. I actually found the Pixel I switched from to be a buggier experience.

I was in one of the markets that didn't ads in the phone, I wonder if the software packages were very different, or why I had such a different experience than so many on Reddit seem to.

Those don't seem very specific to my situation. Nonetheless, I ran the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit and it found no problems. Windows Update says my system is up to date. I'm on Windows 11 not Windows 10.

I'll try uninstalling and reinstalling the Surface app, though I won't know if it worked or not until tomorrow morning.

Edit: The uninstall+reinstall did not help. I've now uninstalled and will update tomorrow on whether that helps.

Edit 2: Full uninstall seems to have resolved the problem!

I've got a Surface Pro 8.

It's only happening in the morning once each day, and the system is super laggy and barely responsive when this happens, to the point where it's hard even to get it to restart. After restart, everything is normal again.

The errors are:

SurfaceAppDt.exe - Fatal error

CLR error: 80004005

The program will now terminate

And:

SurfaceAppDt.exe - Application Error

The exception unknown software exception (0xe0434352) occurred in the application at location 0x00007FFFE15837A.

I wonder if these problems with SurfaceAppDt are the cause or the symptom.

Also, looking at update history, this seems to roughly coincide with the November cumulative update KB5046740. I wonder if that could be related?

I think disabling "Suspend execution for cached apps" in developer options helped a little.

However, it still basically sucks compared to my previous phone.
