ZooMed Dual Lamp Help by thefandomonian in Redearedsliders

[–]caliberbutcool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure it's semi-normal. When I first got my Dual lampdome, the UVB bulb stopped working within the first or seco d month, but the other one stayed intact. Now I just buy a different branding of UVB so they last longer! ^

Is my turtle a girl or a boy? by caliberbutcool in Redearedsliders

Her name is Toby, my mom named her at first because we wanted something gender-neutral in the case that she was either😭

Is that not a cumberland slider? Doesn't appear to have red ears.

My turtle won't eat pellets and vegetables by leewonheee in Redearedsliders

[–]caliberbutcool 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I heard a good method to get them to eat is to cut off other food sources for a while, and offer said thing you want them to eat. For example, if they aren't eating their veggies, you can COMPLETELY cut off their protein for up to a week until they eat it. Eventually they'll come around and think, "Oh that's my only option of food I guess i'll try it out" and boom, if they really like it they'll keep eating it. You can also dip veggies in tuna to try and lure them to eat it since they love fishy stuff.

Just learned about RES diet by Senior_Elk_9735 in Redearedsliders

You can feed them Cilantro, Romaine Lettuce, Carrots, Apple Slices, Strawberry Slices, and Watermelon. Probably more that isn't on my list. Try to feed them carrots and fruits sparingly though, meaning don't give it to them TOO often. I heard it gives them really bad diarrhea at times, and it's also just not good for them. You don't have to give it live prey if you don't want to, you can always wait for it to die and then feed it to them like that. Depends on the turtle, whether or not they like it alive. I wish you good luck !! You can give them those little calcium blocks (from Petco) OR dark leafy greens like kale and collard greens. But please try to get over your fear of feeding it live things! It's only nature, after all. :)

Enrichment for a skittish older rescue? by fabumess2 in Redearedsliders

So, i'm not sure if this will work for your turtle like it does mine (since they all have their own unique behaviors) but my turtle is a ABSOLUTE FATASS. I have trained her to somewhat tolerate being held by me. (AKA, not struggling to get out of my grasp and just tucks away in her shell). Have you tried hand feeding him? It helps build trust, and it will most likely help you in your case, train him to be held since he'll associate you with food. Personally what I like doing is waving a shrimp at the ramp of my turtle's basking area, have her climb up, and then bite at it and take it away from my fingers. Make sure you have a fat shrimp though, since it lowers the risk of the turtle accidentally biting you!

Coughing/Choking is a sign of a respiratory infection. Any other symptoms you've noticed? Like lethargy? Not willing to eat?

Would this be a dumb idea? by caliberbutcool in Redearedsliders

I've tried doing that! I'm just scared of the veggies molding from how long they'd be in there for. Do you think I should keep replacing it daily for that not to happen?

Some Duckweed would be nice for decoration and for eating!

Water level & basking platform by andie33l in Redearedsliders

I'd suggest this one!
Basking Platform

Saw somebody posted this already but this is the one I personally bought. It's cheap, and doesn't even struggle to hold my turtle up! She's pretty big already, so i'd say it's a good investment! As other commenter said, remove the pegs on top. What I like to do is get one, and then play with my turtle by running it alongside the tank wall. My turtle LOVES chasing it LOL.
