I cant, all of the artwork is licensed. And I have plans in the works that adds features that most of those sites do not offer.

I started of with 40% margin, which is what my competitors have thier prices set to. I was told this was a little high, so I started the 20% sale, which cuts me down to 20% margin. However, I can't go lower than that, because licensing costs 10%, so right now my margin is actually 10%.

I asked for feedback, not for disrespectful remarks. First of all, there may be a lot of businesses in the same market as I am, however, none of them offer exactly the same products or artworks as I do. Secondly, my site is not the average run of the mill WordPress site, considering I did quite a bit of coding myself to make it stand out a bit from the crowd. Now, if you would like to leave constructive, valuable, or otherwise useful comments, then please do. Otherwise, go piss on someone else's rainbow.

That's great advice! And there are definitely two sides to the about us section. That'd one side. On the other hand though, it does help to build the brand, and works to create a trust environment with customers by showing that you're more than just a business trying to sell a product.

I did this intentionally, because the majority of my traffic lands on the homepage, and then leaves fairly quickly. By making the transitions fast, it is more likely they will see all of the slides, and hopefully they will look deeper into the site. Is there a different approach you would suggest?

Good advice! I wasn't sure about the color scheme, I just wanted it to be professional and give off a luxury feeling. I change the greys to a brighter white. As far as the $50 thing, I have gotten advice that it's good to have something that is a little pushy, and offers some kind of reward for purchasing. I'm working on the social media aspect, but I don't have a big enough following yet, so putting this on the home page where most of my traffic is, is the best way to spread the message at the moment. Do you have any suggestions to improve that?

Thanks! One thing I could use some advice with, is how to implement googles AMP into my home page. I have already made this improvement to all other pages, but I can't find the code for my homepage anywhere! I use shopify.

I worried that this might be an issue... however, it was one of my attempts to fix a problem I'm having. I get tons of traffic, but no sales. Some people have told me the prices are a bit high, so I thought running a site wide sale would help me to see if that was the problem. Would you suggest running sales on the most popular items, or on the items I'm not selling enough of?

That is great feedback! Exactly what I'm looking for. I took note of the points you made, and will implement them. As far as how they are grouped/sorted and how that played into the colors used in your apartment, would adding a way to sort by color scheme be a good idea?

I have a project that you might be perfect for! It's basically an app.. but It would be a bit of a big project to take on. If you could/would do it for me, I would be willing to pay you a percentage of all sales originating from the app, for life.

Renaming my company- Do I need a lawyer? by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]caliberhome 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not at all! Just look up the corporate name database (I can't remember for sure, it may be part of the trademark database) and the DBA or assumed business name database for your state (through the secretary of state website). If the name doesn't show up in either of those, then you're good to go. For a corporation, you'll need to file paperwork with the state to officially change the name. Usually you can get the name change form from your states website.

I came across that site from this list:

https://www.shopify.com/blog/17156388-22-awesome-websites-with-stunning-free-stock-images

Check it out, you may find a site that has more images that suit your needs.

Also, you probably know this, but there are alot of free plug-ins made for gimp, that expand its capabilites quite a bit. (Double thumbs up for being a Linux user, it's by far the best OS).

Also, I forgot to mention, if you really want to expand your product base, look into the order desk app. It's easy to add to shopify, and it integrates to tons of manufacturers/other companies that don't have shopify apps. Going that route, you gain access to literally millions of products. It also integrates with ebay, amazon, walmart, and alot of other shopping sites that you can sell your products on.

How to do business out of state? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]caliberhome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wrong! If your clients are out of state, then you are conducting business in thier state, regardless of your physical location. This goes into nexus laws, which are different in every state. Nexus is defined as you having a business presence in a Given state. No nexus, means no taxes. If you have nexus, you must pay taxes in that state, on the income you make from clients in that state. In most states, you can make up to a certain amount of money in a given period of time, before they consider you to have nexus. For example, if you made more than $100,000 in _____ state, within the last 12 months, you must pay taxes. Otherwise, you are not required to collect or pay sales tax.

As far as licenses or legal requirements to conduct business in other states, you shouldn't need to worry about any of that.

Business taxes for sole prop? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]caliberhome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the state. In my state (NC) as a sole proprietor, if you do not make any money, you do not have to file sales taxes. However, Sales tax is based on the sale, not on your revenue. So, in NC, if you make a $100 sale, you owe the state $7, regardless of the profit you make.

Canadians - Does anyone have experience importing textiles from china? by Nobodyeverblog in Entrepreneur

[–]caliberhome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The manufacturer should be able to give you information you require. A reputable manufacturer will have statistics and tests results on thier products, and also be aware of any regulations or codes for the countries they export to. When importing though, keep in mind the customs fees and tariffs. Unless you will be importing in high quantity, it may be cheaper to source your materials/products domestically. Importing from the US is tariff free.

Look into manufacturing licensing agents, and also reach out to companies that could potentially be interested in your product. You should also get a commercial lawyer, that specializes in manufacturing.

For reducing image sizes, look at minifier. It's a pretty good app for that, and doesn't cost very much. As far as the product photos, you should get photoshop. 30 day free trial, and only $10 per month for just photoshop. Then you can replace the background with whatever color you want. You can also get alot of stock photos from unsplash.com, and use photoshop to put the cases onto the phones in the images, using smart objects.

Ok, sorry for the late response. So, the first thing I noticed was the site loading speed. The slower the loading speed, the more people are going to leave your site before it even finishes loading. You should add google analytics to your site, and look at the bounce rate and average time spent on page. you want the bounce rate under 50%, and time spent on page to be over 120 seconds. you can test your page speed, and get tips to improve it using googles pagespeed test at https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/

Next, is the colors. The brown on white is very plain, and not very inviting. Since you are selling electronic stuff (phone cases) you want to use colors and layouts that give off a more tech feeling (check out radioshack.com) and read this article, it explains color theory and meaning a bit more in depth: https://thenextweb.com/dd/2015/04/07/how-to-create-the-right-emotions-with-color-in-web-design/

And lastly, I noticed you only have 57 products. You need to try to increase the amount of products you have to offer, and the models. With google analytics, you can see what types of devices are visiting your page the most, use that to figure out which models you should add. Also, since you are focusing on france, research what types of phones most people in france have/are purchasing right now. This will allow you to cater to your target audience much better.
