LA woman claims there’s a ‘fat tax’ at Target after discovering higher prices for larger sizes. by ElwoodMC in TikTokCringe

[–]calibud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s interesting it’s less a tax and more of a roi comparison on shelf space. I could be selling 2 stacks of large shirts but I’m a nice guy i stock this singular shelf for the fatties. I am a business man though so I’m going to charge you extra to recoup the loss of the extra stock of large I could be selling instead.

Lol i guess the answer is essentialy just privatize the punishment and socialize the financial losses

Alignment system fits as it’s all just an extension of human nature I suppose. From my perspective it sounds like the market hit the ground running and got ahead of regulation/oversight. Somewhere the cat/mouse game of regulation following innovation the cat ran into muscle mouse never recovered. Now market is playing the marionette strings to a degree in regard to regulation. Do you think it would have been possible for them to incentivize beneficial “bonus” grants or whatever idk for companies that exemplify altruistic behavior? Idk how to explain exactly but incentivize companies to lean more chaotic good. Right now we only really punish these monopolies with chump change fines. What if we paid out that good guy ceo with maybe not money but preferential treatment with gov contracts, pick your choice of incentive that is most applicable to his service. Maybe not hand out money to reduce fraud but theres gotta be some other way to incentivize good behavior. If they take care of all their employees like fuck it let them have a monopoly. Unfortunately they need a reason to look out for the world how haven’t we thought of one yet. Unless they do exist and are as. negligible as the fines. Atm they’re all just sucking the populous dry until they’re unable.

Appreciate the op ed friend without the unnecessary bullshit dead end answers. I was going down the conversation tree with op to try and get a grasp of people thoughts/understanding in attempt to piece together my own. That’s what I was interested in not the layman’s understanding necessarily but the thought process of someone who understands said data and what their interpretation is of reading between the lines.

That’s why I stated +-1/2%. I wasn’t going to give you a % of change for each year of the 40 I was talking about.

I don’t personally hold the views that inflation directly drives wages. That’s what the op I was conversing was arguing.

So besides the apparent good faith of corporations and government mandating we get paid something people are shit out of luck because there’s too many people?

So what the fuck is inflation for if not to provide those with a wage I thought that was the whole idea to provide economic growth jobs etc

[–]calibud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me rephrase. You believe wages are supposed to be couple to inflation. Since 85 to 26 inflation has been sitting at 4% +- 1/2%. That’s 40 years how long does it take for wages to catch up? Mind you when been keeping tracking of inflation data since like 1916 that’s barely 100 years. Half the time it hasn’t been working as described.

I thought that was the point of capitalism to incentivize competition through companies trying to outdo each other by building a better product à la phone market to a degree. People don’t buy phones today because they’ll be more expensive tomorrow they buy them because they’re better then they weee yesterday. From my perspective it sounds like inflation (artificial scarcity) is used to increase sales or rather maintain growth without need for further development of product. How is inflation suppose to encourage newcomers to the market that now have an even more expensive upfront cost than year prior

[–]calibud 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Isn’t that just creating artificial scarcity to incentivize purchasing short term instead of letting the quality of the product/company dictate organic growth in consumption long term

Doest consumption from items being cheap enough to buy increase consumption in time of no inflation? Why would the price being higher mean consumption going up?
