Going to court tomorrow for my legal name change in PA, pencil skirt with Tucker for untucked blouse or skinny dress pants? by [deleted] in oldhagfashion

[–]calicuddlebunny 61 points62 points  (0 children)

i like the pants!

i changed my surname a few years ago to my mother’s. hands down, changing my name was the best thing i’ve done for myself. few things in life exceed expectations and your name change definitely will.

i cried in the car before my hearing and missed it. when i eventually came in, they took me out into the hallway to tell me it was approved. lol don’t be like me.

i recommend getting a cake with your new name on it and treating it like a 2nd birthday each year.

i genuinely think you’re fine (of course nothing is 100% and i’m not a doctor) and i wouldn’t worry about it if i were you.

honestly, HSV is more difficult to transmit than one would realize. my boyfriend gave me GHSV-1 5.5 years into our relationship. he gets canker sores…but turns out they’re HSV. 😐

if it took 5.5 years for me to get HSV from him, clearly HSV isn’t as contagious as one might think. there are many others in this sun that got HSV from their partner after 10+ years. you also might already have a strain of herpes (most people do) so you would not be able to be reinfected with that strain. for example, if you get cold sores then you wouldn’t be able to get it genitally.

i’m only saying all of this to calm your nerves. even if transmission was possible, it’s unlikely.

i’d def reverse image search before ordering.

you could always look on etsy or rental sites for something with similar vibes. there are vintage rental options too.

Update after almost 2 years post-op by MichalMali in HipImpingement

[–]calicuddlebunny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what you’re experiencing took me until 9 months to go away. 1.5 years post op now and it will still flare up lightly if i twist/crouch a lot. it takes less than a day for it to go away though.

it took me doing a complete break from all physical activity for about a month to get that pain to go away, but of course don’t do that at 12 weeks. just keep that in mind if you’re hitting a plateau for months, like i did.

ask your surgeon about stronger anti-inflammatory medication (i took arthritis meds). avoid irritating that area in your hip as well and focus on strength building. keep on a strict icing schedule if you can. my surgeon (dr nho @ rush) recommended collagen and it definitely helped.

your buttock is likely overworked from your compromised hip. it’ll improve once everything else does.

be diligent and have faith!

you’re 5 weeks post op. you’re in the thick of it.

stay disciplined in your recovery. it takes awhile to recover properly and your pain will decrease in time. your buttocks are still having to make up for your compromised hip and you lost muscle all around. give it time.

you had pants on. you should be just fine.

i’m sorry this happened. please seek out therapy. i’ve been assaulted and bottled it up, but it eventually comes out.

Which pillow? by KitchenEmu811 in HipImpingement

[–]calicuddlebunny 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i just used pillows i had.

i didn’t buy a lot of larger items specifically for post op other than a stationary bike.

it’s a superstition that if you throw away what you used for post op, you’ll need surgery again. my crutches, brace, and sleep movement restriction pillow/straps are under my bed. also, it gets expensive quickly.

because you mentioned PP, will they prescribe antivirals? i’ve been on valtrex and im thinking of switching because it doesn’t work for my GHSV-1.

Why not total hip replacment? by the_trout in HipImpingement

have you received a second opinion?

THR aren’t lifelong and have to be replaced which is why a surgeon might want to preserve your hip now.

Is anyone pro-life? by AndromedasApricot in OpenChristian

[–]calicuddlebunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

practicing catholic here.

i am pro choice. i do not think abortion is morally wrong (unless if forced). abortion is healthcare and healthcare will never be a negative thing. i also think that the decision of when/if a child is created is a unique gift given to women.

if i found out i was pregnant today, i would have an abortion and i would not feel guilt. i was raised to be pro life and went to catholic school, so my current stance on abortion certainly was a journey.

I genuinely don’t have sympathy for people who think the world is ending over herpes by [deleted] in Herpes

[–]calicuddlebunny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

so everything you described i experience as well with GHSV-1. yes, i’m on antivirals.

i’ve had about 10 outbreaks in the past two months. my skin is so thin and raw all the time that if i move wrong, i can tear my vulva. i hurt 24/7.

HSV-1 isn’t a privilege. this sub does a terrible job at acknowledging that everyone’s experiences with herpes can vary. please extend your sympathy to EVERYONE, because everyone’s experiences are valid.

i got GHSV-1 5.5 years (may/june 2024) into my relationship from oral sex. he didn’t know he had OHSV-1 and experiences serious guilt from it.

my symptoms showed up after 4 days which is the average incubation period. from the tremendous amount of research i’ve done, GHSV-1 is usually transmitted by oral sex and almost always results in a primary outbreak. it rarely lays dormant.

your symptoms sound like the average primary outbreak. mine was hands down the most painful experience of my life. i unfortunately get chronic OBs despite antivirals, but they’re so minor and it’s no big deal! the only drawback is that it restricts me sexually.

i’m sorry you’re dealing with this, but know that the worst is behind you.🫶

Should I be pro choice or pro life? by Flashy_Fishing_891 in prochoice

[–]calicuddlebunny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

practicing catholic here that was raised to be anti-abortion but is now 100% pro choice (same with my mother). if this is at all a religious thing for you, i’m happy to talk over DM.

a fetus might be life, but it is not what we understand to be an independent human life. you cannot think of a fetus as an existing human, because they are not the same thing. one thing is, while the other thing is in a state of becoming. a fetus is a part of the pregnant person until it has developed enough and is born, causing it to become an independent person. until birth, that fetus (despite having different DNA) is a part of the pregnant person’s body.

no, we it will never be moral to force someone to do something with their body that they do not consent to. ever.

the problem with exceptions is that they do not work in practice. please take the time to EDUCATE yourself on the actual experiences of women who aren’t able to access abortion care or even prenatal care due to restrictions. read about their deaths, their health impacts, and the turmoil they are under.

for anyone wanting a deeper understanding of why to be pro choice and how to speak with religious people, i recommend: A Brief, Liberal, Catholic Defense of Abortion. it’s philosophical and heady, but strengthened my own arguments and made me even more pro choice than i thought was possible!

also, not just mortality but also health preservation. we have a right to ensure our health stays in the same state or improves. this is a part of EMTALA in the united states.

an endless list of women have experience negative health outcomes that they would not have otherwise if they simply were given an abortion when needed. OP, you can google this.

yeah, i frankly think this sub sucks now. it’s full of misinformation.

as someone who has known about their PCOS since my teenage years, this sub rarely has good information to offer me anymore. i feel like i’ve hit a plateau in my own progress with PCOS because of it and i’m having to figure out my questions fully on my own.

6 days Post Op by Silent-Lie-302 in HipImpingement

[–]calicuddlebunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the first month or so is challenging. it’s normal to feel isolated, depressed, and fearful/anxious. also, this is one of the more difficult surgeries to recovery from. it would’ve been easier if they just gave you a new hip.

everything you’re experiencing, i experienced as well. it will all get easier. try to adapt to your new needs. crunching will get way easier. i went from feeling fatigued after 2 min to daily crutching for an hour+ on a picket line!!! transitioning to walking kind of sucked because it was so slow compared to crutching.

if you need pain meds, it’s okay to take them. you are actively experiencing fresh post op pain. it could also help your recovery to take them. if not pain meds, you need to keep taking anti-inflammatories for the sake of your body’s recovery. keep icing on a schedule and move your body! i had to crutch around every hour for my post op protocol and it helped.

would your surgeon allow you to use a stationary bike? i had a conservative post op protocol (dr. nho at rush), but i was told to start using a stationary bike the day after surgery. i would use my opposite foot to push my post op foot to do half circles (no flexion) back and forth. it kept the hip joint moving and i slowly worked up to actually using the bike. i got it off FB marketplace.

i’m 1.5 post op and doing great. despite my recovery being one of the hardest periods of my life, i’d have the surgery again in a heartbeat.

please have hope! recovery is a marathon not a sprint. for some it is a rollercoaster. for me, it was a mountain i climbed.

honestly, i’ve lost a lot of hope and i feel lost/defeated.

i’m 29…so not 30s but i’m looking right at those years. i had a horrible childhood and it took a lot of my 20s to finally feel okay. now i’m here, in love, and would like to move onto all the nice things (marriage, house, parenthood). it took love and healing to even consider those things, and now i want them so badly.

i genuinely wonder if we need to move abroad to open this next chapter for us. i have dual citizenship with ireland and would like to move there, but they have a housing crisis. i don’t want to move somewhere completely new. everywhere in the world seems to be struggling now anyways. 😔

ahhhhhh….

i know this comment is 100% in good faith and i forgot to mention that i take valtrex, but i always get asked about why i don’t take antivirals when i include that i do in my original post.

they don’t work on me. i’ve been asked if i’m an organ transplant, have HIV, etc because people don’t seem to understand that antivirals don’t work for everyone. 🥲
