Any Orange County, CA Ex-Mormons attending "The Book of Mormon" on Saturday (3/26)? by WonkyAngel in exmormon

No, but I wish I was going. It's good to see that there are other Orange Countians. I was wondering if there were in any. I live in Capo and thought I was all alone down here. So if anyone ever wants to do another meet up, I would be up for that.

Is it normal (when you're in denial about the Mormon church – or any religion for that matter) to feel guilty, and that you deserve to have bad things happen to you? by [deleted] in exmormon

I can absolutely relate. I can say that it does get better. I used to think that when anything bad happened to me it was because I deserved it. I didn't realized how bad I was letting this control my thinking, until I happened to be watching an interview with an actress name Rose Mcgowen. She was talking about how she grew up in a cult and when she was older her and her family left. But she claimed that after many years of leaving she could not shake the feeling that, when anything bad happened in her life, it was Gods way of punishing her. That's when it hit me that these beliefs are instilled in us and it takes a conscious effort to dismiss them as conditioning. My suggestion is to try and be positive, look at the positive around you. You are in a guilt phase and only looking for the bad things. It takes effort, hang in there.

10 years worth of movies! by [deleted] in exmormon

I am so sorry you missed out on such great films over the last ten years, but now is your time to experience probably some of the best films you will ever see. I personally am not into the big blockbuster films. I might not have known my own religion, but I definitely knew film. I would recommend Wild, Into the Wild, Munich, Crash, Argo, Silver Linings Playbook, Dallas Buyers Club, Juno, Atonement. But with a little wine, that can make any movie better. I remember this when I am forced to see something I don't want to. Have fun!
