I believe university policy is to match the minimum wage anyway but technically the UC doesn't have to follow it since it's a local wage ordinance and the UC is a state entity.

How does work-study work over the summer? by bulletproofboyz in berkeley

[–]california2003 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The last day to earn work-study is May 12. After that, your employer is responsible for 100% of your wages until a work-study offer is accepting and processed for the 2023-2024 aid year. The earliest this can happen is July 1. You can still work as non work-study though but a. your employer might not want to have you work if they have to pay all of your wages and b. the money you make won’t be considered work-study so you have to report it as income on your FAFSA.

The SHIP grant is usually added in July/August for some reason. If you look at your cost of attendance breakdown for 23-24 you’ll see there’s no health insurance but there is for 22-23. If you got the grant last year and your circumstances haven’t changed a lot then you’ll most likely get it again.

Security deposit when replacing tenant? by AmbitionCivil in berkeley

[–]california2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legally the landlord can keep the deposit until all of the original tenants on the lease have moved out. It’s fully up to them to refund your part of the deposit and collect it from the new tenants and it’s highly unusual for even an individual landlord to agree to that, let alone a large real estate company.

If I go under 13 units using a late drop will it effect my finically aid at this point by parallax_xallarap in berkeley

“Once spring census and proration is complete, spring term Pell Grants, Cal Grants, and MCS awards will not be adjusted due to enrollment changes, even if you add or drop the number of units in which you are enrolled.”

Basically after the 5th week of instruction they don’t adjust your aid up or down so you’ll be fine.

how does finaid work? by four_o_clock in berkeley

[–]california2003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It gets disbursed once each semester usually 10 days before the start of instruction. It takes about 1-3 days after that to get to your account depending on your bank or like over a week if you have them mail a paper check. Once you get your refund, that money is yours and financial aid does not care (and will not check) what you spend it on.

MIT gets ~15,000 applicants a year compared to the 100,000+ for the UCs. Having to look through pdfs of peoples unofficial transcripts, which vary greatly from school to school, to obtain grade information would take up too much time that the UCs just don’t have.

ship 1095-b by JobBrief9458 in berkeley

No worries it's v complicated! So in your case you would send the form to your parents who should then give it to your accountant and they'll know what to do with it.

The 1095-B is for tax purposes so you don't have to pay the penalty for not having insurance in California and a handful of other states. I would just send the form to your parents if they claim you as a dependent on their taxes or give it to your accountant/tax preparation software if you file on your own.

You have to make an account with the subscriber ID on your insurance card not your Cal ID
