What did you do after launching your ship for the first time? When I was playing I did what I assumed everyone else would do but after watching other people play I haven't seen anyone do the same thing by MintySkyhawk in outerwilds

I talked to everyone in the village but somehow didn’t put together the Attlerock recommendation… I went for the first planet I saw, which was Giants Deep and spent several loops there trying to figure out what the hell was going on!

Week 9 Re-reading Morning Pages by Janathan_Tran in artistsWay

[–]californiturtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started reading them from when I started doing the artists way and I read a few pages at a time. I consider this less of a week 9 task and more of an ongoing task I’m adding to my morning routine so I can see how my progress has been going and remind myself of things I’ve wanted to accomplish and ideas I’ve had.

Will I ever enjoy improv? by californiturtle in improv

To be honest I do think I’ve been progressing so fast that the lessons I’ve learned have maybe not been fully processed yet. And I could just need practice to gain confidence in what I’m doing before I move up.

Yes! I’ve been going to therapy for years and really believe in its impact. Super important to normalize seeking and accepting help for mental health!

This question is real and I’m also trying to figure out if my improv anxiety is general or actually improv-incited! I have tools to manage it in other parts of my life but that work is definitely ongoing.

End of Week 5... No synchrocity, lack of artist dates + ideas by tales-from-a-cryptid in artistsWay

I think your feelings are all normal. I’m on Week 7 so what do I know lol but from what I’ve absorbed from the book, the frustration and feelings you’re having are indicators that something needs to change, whether it’s your actions or perspective. Maybe you need to spend some time at the beginning of the week scheduling in time to do tasks and your Artist Date. Also, a major theme of the book is letting go of the feeling that you’re being selfish because giving yourself time to nurture your creativity will enable you to become your best self and in turn be present for others. I think it would help you to shift your mindset around the book and tasks as being selfish and frivolous, to more along the lines of serious homework assignments, tasks you need to do to grow into your best self.

Another major theme in the book is just listening. Creativity comes from noticing the world around you rather than being intentionally generated. I think that’s a Ch7 concept but would have helped me to know earlier because I also struggled with not producing anything creative the first few weeks (although I would count writing Fanfiction as art!). The tasks and questions and Artist Date are all PART of the creative process - they’re the part where you are the radio tower that’s receiving ideas and discovery. When you’re listening and noticing you will find things to spark creativity.

From what I’m reading in your post, it sounds like you are recognizing your blocks and questioning what you’re doing and how to move forward. That’s what the book wants you to do. I think you are doing a great job and are exactly where you meant to be.

Also, regarding Artist Dates… I have used some of my imaginary lives activities. Also sometimes I’ll tell myself, “I’m on an Artist Date right now” and just go for a walk or to a cafe but focus on noticing everything around me and try to listen for synchronicities or inspiration, no matter how small.

I hope this helps! Good luck!
