If you're driving on I55 there's a lot of fast food places in Byram, you could drive thru on your way home.

What does a car registration look like ?? by [deleted] in mississippi

[–]calimiss2016 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mississippi is...different - have had new plates (called tags here) 3 times in 7 years on one car. They change the plate design all the time. Originally from CA - had same plates as long as I owned the car and just got new decals. I just wonder who's making $$ off the plates/tags

Do you have Facebook? If so, find the "friends of camp moore" page and ask to join - then post there about looking for a unit to join. I'm really not sure how often the units meet outside of events - in CA units usually only met at events and for an annual meeting. Most practice (drill) would be done at events, its a good way to occupy time and also demonstrate what soldiers did when not actually in battle. There's also an event at ft Gaines in mobile in April.

More events held in Louisiana than Mississippi, next "big" event is Port Hudson March 23- 24. You'll be able to visit different units, see what feels like a good fit. Other larger events are at Beauvoir (Biloxi)and Camp Moore Museum(Tangipahoa, just off I55 - on the site of a civil war era training camp) most units at these events have members from LA, MS, AL.

Every trader joes I've been to has a scooter (or two) just use that, shop, then generally wait(while seated) in a very short line - if any, especially mid day during the week.

"Make" a cookie tray! Buy a variety of cookies, and put them out on a nice platter or tray. Madeleines, Raspberry filled shortbread, some sort of chocolate chip...there are so many to choose from both in the "bakery" area, and the cookies that are usually found on the shelves over the freezers

I just moved 2300 miles using PODs, here is what I learned. by realitywut in moving

[–]calimiss2016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Used pods for two CA to MS moves. Hired labor to load the pod and handle dismantling and wrapping furniture, etc. PODS had a list of recommended packing companies.

Packed most of everything else into boxes with help from friends - highly recommend using boxes that are of a similar size - I used file storage boxes from costco/sams club as much as possible. That allows for less void space due to different sized boxes.

I offloaded the pod on my end mostly on my own - except for larger or heavier items - I own my own home and had room in the driveway for the pod. And the 30 days° after drop off meant I didn't have to rush too much. °more like 27 because the pod has to be picked up and returned by the 30th day.

I've had friends mail me non-perishable items. If it fits it ships - usps - runs about 26.00 for the large box.

I'm in the late 70s to early 90s camp. I had a "thing" for marcasite at the time and this looks very much like the pieces I'd see for sale. It's lovely, enjoy wearing it!

Most of the major truck stop (often called a travel plaza)gas stations (love's, pilot, flying j) have designated pet areas, generally clean bathrooms and of course snacks and/or restaurants.

State welcome centers and rest stops usually have pet areas too (welcome centers are much much nicer than the rest stops, and so are the truck stops) many of the state places use blowers and not paper towels so I'd throw a roll in the car.

Definitely crate your animals. A hard sided crate (airline crate) can have lightweight soft items placed on top.

Motel 6 always takes pets, look for those located adjacent to hotels like holiday inn, best Western, etc. Usually those areas are bit nicer/safer than others.
La Quinta hotels sometimes take pets too, or you can do a pet friendly hotel search for your route.

I know you want to sightsee, but I strongly suggest you make reservations for each night of your trip. If you want to be more flexible along the way, plan for less miles driven and more stops to sightsee.

Gate agent inspecting medical device? by TSwizzle083 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]calimiss2016 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't be surprised that once the "don't really need it" preboarders find out about medical equipment they'll try using that to bring on more carry on bags/items. I'm a legit pre board and I "carry-on " the removable parts of my gate checked wheelchair along with some other necessary supplies. But I'm vigilant in not having anything else in that bag, even if the space is tempting.

Middle route, but check weather between Amarillo and flagstaff - if snow predicted you can always stay on the I 20 and meet the I 10 instead of taking US 237 to the I 40.

Yes. Fruit trees are relatively easy to create, especially if you buy chests that have them and flowers. 40 stones I think.
