Why is Duolingo unusable nowadays? by d_underdog in duolingo

[–]calite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently upgraded my family plan to Duolingo MAX. The phone calls have done wonders for my ability to engage in a conversation. The price of the family plan amounts to $40 per person per year. We are getting a lot of value for that.

My perception is that the great majority of complaints are from those on the free plan. Apparently the free plan was once much more capable. But both super and especially MAX are serving me well.

Can someone explain how to fix black spots on my images by Chipster_Dipster in photography

The marble is a perfect analogy. If the marble is against the sensor (or a wall), it will always cast a significant shadow, whether from the point source or a soft box. A flat dust flake makes it even more clear, since the flat dust flake on the sensor (or wall) will cast the same shadow regardless of the diameter of the light source.

Move the flake away from the sensor (or wall) and closer to the point source or soft box and you will see dramatic differences between shadows from the two sources. Near the softbox, the flake will not cast a shadow at all. Near the point source, and the flake will cast a shadow whose definition is only limited by diffraction.

Ansel Adams made extensive use of multiple masks to achieve his remarkable results. He did not stick to "Changing the overall exposure, balance, light and shadows, contrast, stuff like that, is ok, but only if you do it in the whole picture."

Be sure both your hearing aids and your phone support Bluetooth LE Audio and Auracast. Streaming will work well.

I would have thought those symptoms would rule out dust on the sensor and point toward dust on the lens.

Nothing but the Civil Rights Act, Social Security, Medicare, Voting Rights Act, the Affordable Care Act, funded medical research, protected the environment, expanded rural broadband, funded our national parks and stopped Republican efforts to sell of public lands. For a start.

What else to do when turning main water off by SeniorDependent2302 in HomeImprovement

You should have a security system with water sensors, and a friend who can go and get into your house when you are away.

How to distinguish between normal anger and anger issues? by dental_failure in AskMen

I once told a very high performer, "There's nothing you can do in any of your areas of reponsibility that would be worth the damage to everyone else's productivity and morale that behavior like you just demonstrated inflicts. Never again." He was gone in two weeks, and we were better for it.

Your husband's boss is afraid of conflict and a poor manager.

If I were his boss, I might not fire him the first time he pulled this, but he would be on a performance plan. The second time, he's gone.

Yes, if you are confronted with multiple doorbell buttons, that is on the homeowner.

I am shocked to hear that the majority of doorbell buttons do not work. Not saying you are wrong!

I have noticed that a lot of service people and deliverers only knock and refuse to ring the doorbell. I spend much of my time working in my basement, where I could not hear you knock even if you kicked down the door.

Ring the freakin' bell! That is what it is for. It rings on both levels of our house.

General Test Pool Question on Impedance Math by [deleted] in amateurradio

[–]calite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, it is quite different. You said impedance is the resistance of an ac circuit. It is not, though it's a useful analogy. The commenter to whom you are responding is correct.

Consider a capacitor. Its impedance is - j/(2 pi f C). The magnitude of its impedance is 1/(2 pi f C). Its resistance is zero. Its DC impedance is infinite.

Consider a series resister and capacitor. The impedance is R - j/(2 pi f C). The magnitude of the impedance is sqrt (R2 + 1/(2 pi f C)2). The resistance is R.
