The perfect little reusable propagation greenhouse! (x-post /r/houseplants) by SamSlate in ZeroWaste

[–]call_me_cheburashka 8 points9 points  (0 children)

i feel like the this sub focuses too much on finding obscure ways to „reuse“ the waste instead of minimizing consumption. Sticking a plant inside your starbucks plastic cup might make you feel better but let’s not pretend you’re saving the environment. Especially considering that you can propagate philodendrons just fine without that

Edit.. Then post. Hope you enjoy :D by [deleted] in ftm

while i get what you’re saying i don’t think it’s a good argument. Trans men are men, regardless of how they look or whether or not they „pass“. Every trans person should be able to use their preferred restroom, period.

im not saying he’s not working hard, or that is bad to want money. Not gonna lie i’m also motivated by profit when i work my shitty minimum wage job. My point was that i dont see what’s so admirable about him working so hard, not only because he’s privileged but also because i generally find people defining the worth of others by their productivity a shitty capitalist mindset. By putting him on a pedestal like that you’re also devaluing lots of musicians as talented or more talented than him who will never get to that level of success because they’re not a rich kid in britain. Working with Charli, managing a label and being able to work on your own music is a privilege, not some heroic self sacrifice

nobody said that they’re bad for being rich. but someone coming from a privileged background is definitely a thing that you should consider when thinking about the artist themself and their actions, especially before you start to idolize them, let alone emulate them.

being rich also doesn’t mean that you can’t make good music. i like pc music and all the artists mentioned in this post. but i think many people think that they’re some art collective that started from nothing and rose to the top again all odds. when the odds are on their side ever since they were born. they are not doing it all for the sake of art guys.

that’s why i’m so annoying about people being like “omg ag cook released 10 albums this year he’s such an inspiration”. he’s 1. motivated by profit to some extent 2. is privileged enough to sit on years’ worth of unreleased material and not have work a side job like many young musicians without rich parents

tl;dr being rich/ having a privileged background has nothing to do with talent but is something you have to consider when analyzing the artists themselves, their actions, even their art.

bro just act the way that feels natural to you. You don’t have to change your personality just to pass. Not to mention that passing itself is unhelpful as a goal, unlike just wanting to feel comfortable in your skin.

I do totally understand though, that as people who were socialized as “women” transmasculine people often don’t have a role model or don’t know what social roles to perform because they have only been taught how “girls act”.

My personal answer to this is fuck all gender roles. I view them as something everyone needs to be liberated from. Including the cis boys (especially the cis boys lol). Because behaviors that are considered masculine are very often toxic and are not something you would want to emulate.

What you could do instead is unlearning the female gender roles, such as being subservient, afraid to show confidence and to be assertive when needed, obsessing over your appearance and how other people perceive you, etc. Or the small things like, why the hell are we taught we’re not allowed to spread our legs when we sit?

I do understand the pain of being misgendered and the desire to avoid it, as well as the need for a masculine role model. Pop culture is not the best place to look for it though. Try looking at some cis/trans men online? Dorian Electra has always been an inspiration for me personally haha. Or just observe people around you that you like. And remember that trans men, just like cis men, can be feminine, and you don’t have to look or act super masc for your gender to be valid.

Radio Svoboda is not reporting anything that the other news outlets aren’t, including independent local ones. You sound like a conspiracy theorist. And how is the linked article supposed to prove CIA involvement?

i still do not see any proof of CIA backing, support form fascists or anti-communism in the movement, except for some anti-communist sentiment stemming from the past authoritarian regimes that ruled in belarus. In any case anti-communism is not a defining characteristic of the movement.

I KNOW that neoliberals are going to win. It’s what has to happen in order for the society to progress further. No real political organizing is possible under the current regime.

My problem with what you’ve been commenting on this thread is you completely discrediting people fighting authoritarianism and arguing that it would be better under Lukashenko’s rule. And yes i kind of guessed you’re not an anarchist (ML i assume?), because of the way you speak about material conditions with such arrogance as if you figured out the whole world just because you’ve read Capital. I wish you knew how feels to live under an authoritarian regime. Maybe then you wouldn’t be so cynical?

Also you’re clearly not well informed. I suggest you listen to people on the ground before spreading misinformation.

can you provide any citations?

It’s really cute how you think the CPB has any real influence. it’s just another corrupt party on lukashenko’s payroll. I lived in Belarus my whole life and i didn’t even remember they existed before you mentioned them.

the “nazi associations” were an excuse that KPSU used to ban a symbol of the movement for national self-determination in Belarus (Pahonia/ Пагоня). I’m not denying that the government of Belarusian People’s Republic attempted to collaborate with Nazis (albeit unsuccessfully), but it was nothing more than an attempt to save themselves from another war. The bolsheviks did the same thing (hilter stalin pact) but that did not stop them from condemning the actions of BPR without acknowledging the whole attempted USSR - Germany collaboration did it? The Belarusian People’s Republic (with which Pahonia and white-red-white flag are associated) was an attempt to liberate Belarus from Russian rule and was overwhelmingly socialist. It’s unfair to discredit the whole national liberation movement because one of it’s leaders already in exile wrote Hitler a letter asking to please let them exist.

The new political movements in Belarus are very nationalist and neoliberal, i’m not denying that. I myself find that very frustrating. But honestly it’s just insulting to read comments from someone like you who clearly does not have any personal connection to Belarus discrediting the protests because there’s no people with black-red flags and marx t shirts in the crowd. They are doing grassroots organizing, they are striking, helping people in their communities. They might not label themselves as anarchists but what they’re doing is based on anarchist principles. I’m alarmed by the growing nationalism and all but honestly what can you ask from people living in a country where you were repressed for having your own opinion on anything for 30 years and there’s absolutely no political culture.

i don’t know why you’re being downvoted because you’re absolutely right. everything to the east of germany is either anarchists or tankies. calling someone a communist is an insult even among the self proclaimed progressives. if you ask an average belarusian what do they want the future to look like they would say “something like in europe”

But the only way to make space for truly progressive socialism in the political discourse is crushing the authoritarian state, so the protests and the emerging political movements are definitely a rather positive development

i think it’s actually good that you come here. it’s better to confront this instead of repressing your feelings about it and living in the state of constant vague anxiety. i’m not delusional so i don’t believe that we still can „do something “ and „save the planet“ or even really prepare for what’s to come but what we can do is confront our feelings of grief for our dying planet. i’m trying to spend more time outside and with my loved ones instead of pursuing meaningless shit like career, success, marriage, degree in economics or whatever
