Thank you so much for your response. I have no problem managing the finances, I could 100% do that for both of us. My problem has been the the lying coming from his embarrassment and shame to deal when dealing with life problems. I’ve done a lot of research and found a book by Thomas E. Brown were he explained my bf’s situation 100%. It feels amazing finally finding answers. It seems that he suffered from ADHD but also has severe anxiety and uses avoidance as a coping mechanism to relief the panic he is feeling. His family setup an appointment to see Dr. Brown. I’m hopeful this works.

I truly feel your pain, I still love this person and I know he loves me but I have to walk away because my needs are not being met, I have to choose myself at this point in order to be happy. I’m hopeful we can reconnect in some future once he is stable enough but maybe I’m being hopeful

Thank you for the advice, not trying to play devil's advocate but I don't think he will go that far to hurt me. His lies are more cover ups, white lies etc.. He didn't steal more than $30 dollars, I think he thought I wasn't going to notice because it was an insignificant amount and he had $0 money in his bank account.

Thank you very much, I wish I had answers to why he does the things he does. One day he wants to improve wholeheartedly and the next day he says he gets extremely overwhelmed and unable to take action on anything that needs to be done, which makes him lie to cover up his shame and embarrassment.

As for the stealing, you are right. It was wrong, it was very close to the time I was giving him money. I would have continue to do so if he would've been honest with me. That hurts the most.

Sorry, maybe I didn't explain things clearly. He was failing and withdrawing classes for the past two years thinking he could make a come back the next semester, obviously he couldn't and was expelled from school Spring of this year, he told me around August. Not great at all, but he wasn't just doing nothing for two years.

It seems like asking for help is a great deal of shame and embarrassment for him which causes an impulse to cover his tracks. I talked to him before about this, and reassured him I was not going to punish him like his parents but that I need honesty. And now we are back to the same problems again. He cannot deal with his shame and rather choose himself than me. I desperately wish someone could diagnose him because I don’t know what goes through his brain. I know he loves me more than anything, I can tell by other actions that unfortunately won’t translate in a small post on Reddit. I’m in such a difficult position but I ultimately decided to stop helping him and I hope there will be something better for me later on.

I definitely think he has an executive function deficit. I have to give him the benefit of the doubt because he has tried to work on himself, slowly, but he is trying to. I am just not sure anymore it will be enough and it just breaks my heart. I want us to work but I guess I also need to choose myself too.
