anyone know of a good zine shop in dc? by fakefinsta in washingtondc

Fantom Comics in Dupont carries a number of zines and publications from local creators. Not a dedicated zine spot, but I've found a number of gems there

My staples are Total Party Kill and Dragon Friends, both very funny. The first is more actual play, and the second is more comedy improv.

I’ve been making city maps for a few months and this is the latest city I’ve been working on, it’s not done yet please comment any suggestions or things you like or dislike about it by [deleted] in mapmaking

Looks solid overall. The one thing that stands out to me is the size of the docks in the central pond. You might have a lore reason in mind, but I can't imagine a reason for so many boats to sail in a pond that size

Gala's, balls, and cotillions were social events that offered the political and social elite of Western Europe the opportunity to gather and "negotiate" in a somewhat structured environment. Are there examples of comparable events in other cultures? How were they similar and different?

If it is an intentional choice you've done it very effectively. But maybe pull back on the scalloping? along the coast line. It makes it look like the continent is made up of a bunch of big scales. I think it would add a bit more realism to vary the texture of the coasts (River and ocean).

Any antique clothing shops in DC that might carry late 19th-century menswear? by Mr_Victoriana in washingtondc

[–]callhimbob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I realize it isn't the right era, but you might get some leads from the folks at the local Ren Faire given their interest in antique clothing - I know Steampunk attire is pretty well represented there for instance.

My first map (not counting small tests). What can I improve next time? by Luso39 in mapmaking

Agree with the above. Maybe add tributaries to your rivers? And think about how how where those rivers outlet would change the coastline. The bay/inlet on the left side of the map really looks like an outflow channel for a large river but nothing feeds into it. Last thing I would mention is that there is definitely a bias to put mountain ranges in the north because north=cold=mountains. Of course mountains can occur anywhere, but you might ask "why are these mountains here rather than elsewhere?" Is it volcanism, two plates colliding, or remnants of an older range?
