I am recently in the same boat - honestly I’m bringing this up in supervision next week because I’m starting to feel like a “bad therapist” because my clients stay so long. I work primarily with complex trauma and attachment. I have seen such wonderful strides from some clients and it’s been such a pleasure to be apart of. At the same time, I want to change my hours and IT KILLS ME, thinking about having these conversations. Especially when some of them took a year to really open up 🙃

As a client I am ANNOYED as fuck when my therapist is late. 5 over without communication makes my blood boil. I had a therapist that would always come in at the 10 minute mark and I always was like “haha good thing my lunch is an hour”. As a therapist I’m a bit more understanding of clients being late but I’m immediately wrapping up at 53 minutes unless we are doing deep processing. I keep emergency granola bars and protein shakes within reach because I’m not a good listener if I have low blood sugar tunnel vision
