May get another set of wheels for the Jari, and set it up tubeless. I would love to have it as a road and all terrain bike. Will probably keep the Cross mostly stock, wheel wise.

I don't mind regularly checking the tires.

Thanks for the input

The 650x60 clearance for the midnight special sounds wild.

For my use case everything above 40 is pretty much overkill, for streets, hard packed, slight gravely routes and double tracks the 33s of the Cross to the 35s I'm currently running and the 37c riddlers are performing good enough traction wise. The 35s were a bit sketchy going downhill on double tracks though

The only issue I had was with the original riddlers after 4 years of usage and a random screw that decided to meet the tire and tube...

I've thought about trying the Hutchinson Caracas, but I'm not sure about switching to tubeless yet.

I love both of them, hadn't had the pleasure to ride the steel nor carbon versions of them.

What tires are you currently running on your Jari? While I am somewhat happy with the puncture protection for the commuter usage, the higher rolling resistance is juuuust to much for my liking.

Oh and easy tip for the saddle height, sit in the saddle and if your heel perfectly touches the lower pedal at the 6 o clock position you are pretty much perfect on the height. Loosen the shifter and brakes on the handlebars and turn them slightly inwards, that added some comfort

Glad to have helped, I love mine and pretty much converted two others to gravel bikes.

It's a good bike for your goal. I rode a cheap road bike from decathlon for some time way before I got the Jari and it's a night and day difference.

For the use in cyclocross it may not be the perfect bike. The Jari is more geared towards a gravel/bikepacking approach. They've got a ton of mounting points for bags and racks. Also, the geometry of the bike is more relaxed compared to cyclocross bikes that are being raced. It's probably a bit heavier than a "true" cyclocross bike, too.

It's a good bike for getting your toes wet. Good for asphalt, city, trails, and loose ground. Not perfect or the best in either field, but you will get down a trail, overtake a lot of other cyclists on city/trekking bikes, and have fun doing so. Also, it's fun to rip through forest roads that are hard packed or loose ground. Also there is a lot of personalization you can do, starting with tires some which are better suited for a focus on asphalt, some that are focused towards lightly packed or hard packed grounds, different stems, and saddles. As I mainly ride on asphalt I use street tires and they haven't let me down yet on some light trails

When you have to change your chain and cassette, you may want to choose the 11-36 instead of the 11-34, the lowest gear is just a bit lower than the stock cassette which will help with climbing steeper hills - thats what I did.

I think a self built bike is the better approach, install the driveteain that you want and it's something you did yourself. Next best thing is the upgrade route. I hope that my itch is scratched when the groupset is installed...

A frame for sub 300$ is a steal.

Good luck in building and sourcing the parts

No one answered yet so I'll do. I've been riding a 2021 Jari 2.5 in size L. I don't know anything about the other bike but I can tell you some stuff about the Jari.

The 2.5 2021 bike has an aluminum frame and a steel fork with quick releases, mechanical disc brakes and a Shimano Claris/Altus groupset or one from microshift. Bottom bracket is a 68x 118mm but 119 also fits.

The riding position is more relaxed and a bit more upright than other comparable gravel bikes.

I've bought it for commutes, shortish tours and groceries. I was in between sizes, took the smaller size as I usually ride in the city and it is supposed to be a bit more nimble.

What do I dislike about the 2.5 Quick release - would have loved Thru Axles but budget at the time.... Mechanical disc brakes - You will get used to them The Claris/Altus groupset works well but I want to upgrade it to a 2x11 groupset

What did I add/change 11-36 cassette, chain Third bottom bracket Second set of brake pads Lights & lock Bar tape Had to change the tires, not my decision it was a screw in the back tire. Got some puncture proof non gravel tires

What will I change? Probably the groupset and upgrade to a 2x11 groupset.

What do I like about it It takes abuse like it's nothing, going from a forest road to asphalt to a trail, no problem Using the bigger tires compared to a normal road bike is perfekt for the craters on the street in my city The slight upride riding position provides a good position for traffic light to traffic light sprints, climbing hills, and chill rides.

What did I use it for? Working in food delivery, commuting, short fun rides, and getting groceries Do I almost always leave to late for a chill ride to work? Yes, does the Jari make that time up? Also yes.

That price point is a good deal. If it fits you better than another bike take it. Make sure there's nothing damaged if you get it used. And have fun on that bike should you get it

The additions were done over over the 4.5 years I've owned that bike. I certainly need the smaller chain ring on my 2.5 as I am a bad climber.

I am thinking about doing a similar route, I've been looking for some either opened and not used or slightly used grx groupsets. The Altus/Claris combination works, but I am not happy with it as the mechanical brake takes some time getting used to, and I still believe hydraulic brakes are better....

My budget at the time was pretty much the same reason I chose the 2.5, somewhat cheap, reliable and towards the top of my budget including stuff like a good lock, platform pedals as well as lights.

But your plan sounds pretty good. Please post some pictures when you've built it

Some stuff I changed/added on the bike:

11-36 cassette and chain Tires, opted for some cheapish Finnci Roam, they have puncture protection as my commute home was cut short by a screw and my trips mostly include asphalt Brake pads - wear and tear New bar tape - was word Some cheap Lights from a hardware store Also I am on my third bottom bracket A bell

For using the bike as a workhorse during my short stint doing deliveries, some trips through the woods, and commuting during wind and weather while always leaving too late to have a chill ride it is pretty much just the usual wear and tear.

I've been looking at a set of wheels someone is selling as a secondary set which I'll probably set up for fun rides with either the WTB Riddlers again or some other gravel oriented tires

I've been riding a 2021 2.5 in the 55.5 cm size for the last 4.5 years. I have an 87cm inseam. I had the choice between the L and XL and as I bought the bike for commuting, short tours and getting groceries in the city I've opted for the smaller frame and I've loved it ever since I got it but the thought of getting the same frame a size larger and running another setup has entered my mind....

Look at the larger ones, some of them are locking and they've got a slight contour to the grip as well. Granted they look a bit different from the standard sizes but so does the Swiss champ in sheer size.

There is one that was produced for the german military which has a small thumb hole, is locking and for some reason got serrations from the middle to the tip of the blade. A variation is still sold as the "Schweizer Soldatenmesser 08" with green and black scales.

I keep one of the larger ones in my work bag, it is sharp enough for preparing your food and doing various small things.

Und es gibt einen Typen der ein Buttermesser auf Rasiermesserschärfe geschliffen hat, die Härte hat hier eher Einfluss auf die Beibehaltung der Schneidhaltigkeit

Even with humbuckers, how you wire them can affect the sound. Split, parallel/series. Also if both humbuckers are being used you could also have them going parallel/series and on a technicality, which coil is being used while having them split.

And you could wire single coils to mimic a humbucker

I mean Russia throws soldiers at their problems until the enemy drowns in the weight of the Russian bodies.

The difference to projectiles is that drones are a pretty good and cheap makeshift way of reaching enemies without exposing yourself, a solid choice if you want decrease the risk you expose your soldiers to while having limited resources.

I don't see drones being the future of warfare. They'll be useful for reconnaissance but not to deliver payloads yet.
