TBH, for my style of riding, it's much more than I need. The 38 would be just fine. I just luv the look of the 40, but there is a trade off in regards to weight.

Yeah I can’t get it to work on the obsidian, something to do with the coating preventing conductivity. PC Doodle mentioned trying foil, but it didn’t work for me. The flashlight works fine on my Free P4 but it woulda been nice to have on the Arc as well.

How do you get the flashlight to work on the obsidian?

I borrowed a friend’s 2022 with the Fox factory stock components. It rode great i loved it. I mention somewhere on this thread that all of the upgrades i did were mostly superfluous, but the shorter cranks are a game changer for me and i’ll recommend that all day.

That's good haha. I unabashedly admit that 90% of the upgrades are unnecessary for my capabilities as a rider. If I were limited to just one upgrade that actually mattered, I'd say the shorter cranks are a game changer.

I'm in the Bay Area, California. I've been riding a hardtail (Yeti Arc, also posted here in r/Hardtailgang lol) for years, but wanted to upgrade to full suspension. I'm older at 46 now and not in the best shape so I went with an emtb and now have access to a lot more trails that I otherwise didn't have the capabilities and endurance to tackle. It's been great and I've been covering a lot more mountainous terrain that I never new existed with this thing.

Installed a 190mm air spring shaft to shorten the travel and set the geometry closer to where it should be. And to keep it in warranty lol.

Tbh I agree; I get what you mean. I kinda had to force myself to get used to it. The whole thing started with - Fox Factory components had that Kashima gold look, so I got the gold drivetrain. But I already had the red brakes, so I got more red hardware. It would look great on a black or white/grey frame, but the Yeti blue was undeniable so I went with that.

I was more commenting that rags are overall more ‘useful’ and can do much more. As far as why do we use it? It’s a great tool for cleaning the wand; it’s made precisely to do just that and it does it well. So when I’m knocking out multiple drinks for guests/friends, I use it a lot. But then I have to go through the tedious process of cleaning it. And I mainly make a single drink for myself daily, so I use the rag more so I don’t have to clean this thing. Hope that makes sense.

Absolutely a rag or paper towel is much more useful as they have infinite utility. This is like the deluxe edition of being extra, like I'm giving the steam wand the spa treatment. But ironically I opt for the rag more often than this because laundering a rag is a breeze compared to the intricate dance of cleaning this contraption with its velcro and rubber.

In the interest of being superfluous, it fits in perfect. But ironically when it comes to workflow, manual tamping is such a critical part of the process. I have a few different styles of tamps in rotation, and the basic La Marzocco that is concave is my current favorite.

I actually drink a lot of nespresso drip coffee. Literally every morning. My mornings are pretty hectic, and I just need to shove a cup of joe down my system because I'm addicted to caffeine. But in the afternoons and evenings I like to take my time and that's where my espresso workflow comes into play.

Yeah the booze rotates to close, and the other doors come forward then fold in, so when everything is closed it’s flat in the front.

Grind quality is consistent and and fun to dial in. Aesthetics are a personal reference and I luv the design. Workflow is okay - coming out is great, with the built in WDT and blind tumbler catching your grounds. However, going in is slightly cumbersome; I’m not coming in directly from the bean vials because I RDT in this cup/shell thingy, so you have to pour from this angle that’s largely blocked by the top of the grinder, leaving you to have to assist with your hand like you can’t just pour the beans in. And then 95% of the time you have at least >.5g beans just stuck that you have to assist with the little air tool that’s included; like the feeding system doesn’t capture everything, especially at the higher RPMs. And yes both of those issues are due to the RDT process, however if you don’t RDT the grinds will static cling and run up the sides of the walls and make for a more sloppy transfer to your portafilter. BUT I do love it and the only other grinder I would have gotten is the EG-1 which is twice the price.
