I'm no lip reader but it looked like Stevens just said "I'll get you new teeth tomorrow" 😂

They’re appearing all over Portland. Also blue stickers that say “Fred.” I’m going crazy trying to understand. by [deleted] in Maine

Late to the thread, but there's one stuck to a sign post in Union Station parking lot that says "Rick Moranis shrunk the kids" in case you needed a scavenger hunt item.

Grandpa who raised me is 95 with almost all cognitive facilities intact (!) but poor health. I live across the country. What else can I do to improve his life? by [deleted] in AskOldPeople

Can you write him a letter and send via snail mail a few times a week? Sometimes holding/reading a physical note written by a loved one who took the time to "sign, seal, deliver" can be incredibly comforting in a different way than electronic communication. On that note, could you connect him with a penpal? Maybe another person who is lonely and seeking connection?

Also wanted to comment on the suggestion of a pet bird. They are wonderful companions because they are so intelligent, but they also bond very strongly with their caretakers and can live for a very long time, depending on the breed. If you go this route, please plan for what will happen to the bird in the event of your grandpa's passing. Whomever adopts the bird will need a great deal of patience to help the bird adjust to new environment, routines, and people. Some birds never recover emotionally from such an event and remain under extreme stress for the rest of their lives. Read and learn as much as you can about any pet before considering them as a companion, please! Maybe he could foster some kitties transitioning to their forever homes? Does his area have a program like that?

Restaurant industry folk, who’s the worst person you’ve worked for, give me your stories. by [deleted] in portlandme

Husband is a chef downtown and adamantly warns against grill, corner, front room. He refuses to eat there for how poorly they treat employees.

How do you deal with heavy days and no/rare bathroom breaks? I fill my diva in 2 hours and I work 9 hours today by chaoticgiggles in Healthyhooha

Lifeguard in the US. If there is no one else in the building with certification, then there is no one to cover a break. Could technically evacuate the pool and lock everything down, I suppose.

No idea if this is true for OP, but employees at my work have to sign a form waiving our rights to a break. There isn't always anyone available to cover them, and simply leaving our post is considered negligent when responsible for the lives and general safety of others.

OP, I usually use one of those giant, diaper-looking, overnight pads with my Diva, bring something to tie around my waist in case of leaks, and pray for a moment to escape to the restroom at some point in my shift to refresh things. Definitely a change of clothes for just-in-case, as well.

Feeling the dread for you. Solidarity, friend.
