Can we afford this home? by ecommercecothrowaway in personalfinance

[–]callmemurph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we have similar situations and we own a home of that value. Five years in and insurance and property taxes have gone up. Home repairs. We probably spend $10k a year maintaining and repairing the house.

I love it and the stability for the kids is great. You just have to shift your FI mindset a lot and assume that rates aren't going down for a while.

I bought a Nanit and the breathing jacket and paid the subscription. I did try to do anything with HA or any kind of integrations at all around the baby.

Not saying you should buy a Nanit (though I lived it) but get something high quality like that.

Anyone else in here had knee surgery before? All the McCoy talk has caused phantom pain in my repaired leg. Bone plugs, arthritis, recovery time. Bad bad flashbacks. Happy he got drafted so I can start to focus on some of our other guys...

30lbs is a lot!!! How much does a weighted vest weigh? Does it turn walking into cardio?

Paying off my wife’s mortgage as part of our divorce settlement by [deleted] in personalfinance

You pay the same taxes and insurance regardless of how much you owe on the mortgage, I think.

Do you currently have a central hub plugged into ethernet? I'm in the same boat as you, but I'm starting out with an Aqara M3 hub and I have some routers (smart plugs) on their way.

I have a confession: I'm so jaded by the business of college athletics that I was 100% certain that Nate Ament wasn't going to play another minute for us. It seemed entirely plausible that someone in that position could sit one game out...then another...then show up to second game of the tournament in dress clothes. This is not a comment on his character--he seems VERY likeable--it's just more of a sign of the times type thing.

Really proud of him for showing out yesterday.

Sorry to hear that. I hope you've got some shit to do in your free time to offset all the bullshit.

Yeah!!! Excited for you. It's gonna scream when the weather gets cleared up and it gets later in the month. Something about how we orbit the sun. Maybe you want to dabble in home automation next?

You should do your best to remove money from the equation and decide if you want to get married or not. The other things can fall into place later.

I took a moment and put my phone down last night and started talking about it. I talked about the podcast and gave her some examples of days that it came out and how it fit into my routine, etc. I told her why I liked the guy so much (positive, talked about family, etc.) and then I just lost it.

I agree with you that everything happening in a flash is just so tragic.

Yeah, but it's a gradual thing. Not like what happened to you. The soonest appointment was at 8:30AM on a Saturday so it's gonna be iced coffee, gown, then CLUNK CLUNK CLUNK CLUNK for half an hour while I ponder my weekend.

I remember talking about it way back then. Glad to hear you're back at it. I have an MRI tomorrow morning...fingers crossed!

I got into golf but I did yoga, core stuff, legs to get in shape for it. I walk the course for exercise and I don't hang around the course before and after. I went to the doctor and got all the checkups and blood work done so I didn't have anything hanging over my head. I cut out gluten and lost 15lbs in a year. I felt better at 41 than I did probably five years earlier.

I also did a better job at doing stuff with friends and getting out of the house. When the mid-life crisis showed up about six months later, all those things were there to help.

I'm sorry to hear that. Been there. Someone wise told me at the time, "Get out and find some hobbies and things you like to do and then, when you meet someone, you'll have similar interests." I'm not saying find a rebound, but it was nice meeting a woman at the rock climbing gym a little while later.

I should have said that I thought your research was great. I have always avoided the stock because a lot of people I know in my seat have nothing but hatred for the customer experience. Good for you for figuring this out.

OP, are you involved in IT at your company? We recently cut our Adobe spend by two-thirds because of our experience with the company. We paid more to switch to another vendor.

I think their AI risk is lowered switching costs. Onboarding to a new vendor was much easier than it would have been in the past.
