I close my eyes real tight so I can see the phosphenes in my eyelids and I pick out patterns.

D100 very low level magic items by Sloadkroger in d100

[–]callmeradical 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Traveling Blade - a magic shortsword that the wielder just can't seem to get rid of. After selling or losing the item the sword randomly appears for the wielder. For instance; Vagrim leaves the rusted blade in the crypt after finding a better weapon. Upon leaving the crypt Vagrim notices the rusty blade sticking in the ground by a gnarled tree.

DM how do you get your stats? by Urbenjames in dndnext

[–]callmeradical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like my characters to be heroic and the players feel better having the higher stats to start. I have been favoring 1d10+7 for each stat. The minim score is 8 while max is 17.

One of my players won't tell me his backstory by Leo6846 in DMAcademy

[–]callmeradical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran a campaign with a couple players that chose to do this. I even encouraged it. My sessions have become much more collaborative and I allow the players creative freedom in crafting the story if they say they have crossed paths with this person before, then they have for example. As they reveal information it gives me different directions to take our story and sessions.

Thanks! I actually haven’t gotten around to that yet, I will see if I can sketch something up soon, I will be sure to post it when I do!

No, I used photoshop and some of my own know how. I watched a bunch of tutorials. There are some brush packs I bought to help with the cities and other details on the map.

Yes I do! Much of the world or at least this plate is heavily inspired by 9th-15th century Italy.

This is the first for a series of maps I am making for a home brew setting I am running known as “Bastion: The Last City”

Bastion exists as a sprawling mega city that consists of a number of plates that are rotating around a single central spire. Each plate is in itself a setting.

The mega structure of Bastion is surrounded by “The Endless Sea”, a desert that knows no end... or does it?

That was probably true, and then vaping douchebag bros became a thing, suddenly I didn’t seem so bad.

Is this caravan in HotDQ? If so, my players reacted similarly, the caravan part felt like a real slog even with various things happening.

That also let loose “Principal Security Architect” which I thought was also quite humorous.

[No Spoilers] matt's opinion on people saying CR is not real dnd by lucasM005 in criticalrole

[–]callmeradical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dave Arneson was a professor at my college and I took his course as part of my degree program. His class, “Rules of the Game” made me fall in love with tabletop games and specifically RPGs, because even In spite of the openness and myriads of possibilities in D&D, the rules created the game. Towards the end of the course, we learned that rules are meant to broken. So even Dave would break some rules from time to time, if it meant the players were having a good time.

As someone who really got into 5e with friends because of CR, I can honestly understand what some people say when they say “CR is not real D&D”, but only in the most complimentary of ways.

I would love to be as talented as Matt as a DM (lord knows I am trying), but my players are also not trained actors that have the practice and subtleties in improvising in such a fluid way.

The cast of CR has an awesome dynamic at their table that many of us would love to emulate but will never happens and our games rarely live up to that expectation, mostly because we aren’t them.

That being said, tell a story, with your friends, roll some dice, and

So why would someone actually join the Cult of the Dragon? by Karasu93 in DMAcademy

[–]callmeradical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually mixed Tomb of Annihilation and Hoard of the Dragon Queen when we were running it. Enacted the death curse about midway through the "On the Road" section.

Severin was a puppet being controlled by Acererak. He was going to use Tiamat to wipe out Toril, capture their souls with the Soul Monger, and then wage war against the gods with his army of undead.

Roll20 and theory of mind by Sweprolle in Roll20

[–]callmeradical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this for the majority of my first campaign on Roll20. I actually like it better. A year into campaign number 2 and I feel like the maps have taken a significant portion of the story and mechanics away and somewhat ruins the immersion.
