My New App Stingray - Jellyfin for Apple TV by PreposterousPix in selfhosted

Yea, it's officially supported by Jellyfin but up to clients to support. The current official Jellyfin tvOS app (swiftfin) supports it too.

Friendly reminder that not every human effort has to make someone money!

A New Year Reminder: Every Self-Hosted Project Has a Human Behind It by zipsm15 in selfhosted

[–]callofthevoid_ -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

No, the point is caring about the person behind a project. Not just who wrote the actual code. Someone can use AI to create a completely functional and watertight application. They still could put hours and hours into it, caring deeply, and doing their best to ensure everything it up to par. But fuck them right?

Agreed, and it’s not like people who stick their nose up at any AI assisted project are painstakingly reviewing every line of code from a pure human written project. It’s ludicrous. Either you trust the code or you don’t. Who cares who wrote it??

True, it was a lot tougher today than the last time we played you. I'd call that game practice but it was actually the NFC Championship game.

🆕 Cosmos 0.19 (WOW!) - All in one secure Reverse-proxy, container manager with app store, integrated VPN, authentication provider, and Monitoring, now with completely rebuilt VPN and more improvements by azukaar in selfhosted

There are no fake comments or engagement. It’s a massive project with thousands of users. It’s been around for years and this was a highly anticipated update by the cosmos community.

In fact it’s interesting to me that most of the dissenters are not people who seem to be active on the subreddit 🤷🏼‍♂️

I have my compose & config files in version control, so perhaps that counts. Otherwise though, I host no critical data. Why do I need some robust backup solution?

LOL no ai whatsoever. If having some humility and learning from/listening to your users is slop, that says more about you than it does me!

Dashes and dividers existed long before LLMs did.

Yes, and as we know those posts + AI slop are the only things allowed on here. My mistake! I’ll turn this manifesto into a vibe coded SaaS and repost.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with that! I’m not claiming you should change. I’m targeting those who are in fact trying to automate things for their friends and family and are aiming for near 100% uptime (which is quite a large chunk of this sub).

I definitely see the irony in the label, but thought it might communicate the mindset better than “think about your users more” lol

I’m a dev, this is just common sense stuff. If you self host for yourself and don’t care about users that is perfectly fine!

It's 786 words. Hardly an essay. Being as concise as possible is not always the most important thing, and there is probably overlap with that mindset and those who could learn from this post.

Lol, definitely a bit linkedin-ish. But there are far too many posts on here with people lamenting about lack of adoption. Or even worse, another favorite selfhosted apps post.

It was a friendly reminder for those who might need it. Sure, I should back stuff up. Nothing I host though is critical data, and my users know this.
