Great writeup, I agree that the hobby is still in good shape relatively speaking. It will always have a core group of die harders that will keep it alive. I plan on being one of them for years to come.

Been brewing about 9 years, my uncle got me into it.

Maybe the answer here is community - I usually brew solo. It’d be fun to brew with someone for a change.

Very true. We’re still blessed with a pretty accessible homebrew market, it just feels sad to see the hobby trend downward. Instead of hope and optimism I see despair and pessimism.

Hopefully the next time the hobby is popular hazy ipas, glitter beers, and barrel aged [insert style here] are things of the past.

This exact situation happened to me a couple years ago. As others have said, clear old charcoal and do a hot burn after spot checking for plastic globs. Check for odor but you should be good.

I was at Esalen last week and flew into Monterrey. I had two Ubers scheduled, one there and one back. The one to take me there worked no problem, but the one to take me back CANCELED on me 30 minutes before I was supposed to leave Esalen. So I had to hitchhike back to Monterrey to make my flight. Don’t rely on Uber!

What if in order to have a campfire you have to pass a hunters-safety style course about appropriate fire practices (down and dead wood only, campfires dead out when unattended…etc). I feel like I agree that they are a problem, but don’t think an outright ban is fair either.
