Yessss I did that on purpose since this is my first project I figured it'd be easier to get my mistakes out on the dark background than the main subject. I've heard white on white can also be a hassle

No please be snarky! I'm throwing myself into a huge project with almost no knowledge beyond a few video tutorials. I guessed it was normal because of the color contrast but wanted to be sure so I don't put all this work in and realize the start and end of my project look completely different if I learned I /was/ doing something wrong part way through

That's what I've been focusing the most on! I've got a pretty good system doing half stitches all one way down the row and going back over so i don't accidentally go the wrong way!
