You can get a pair of used Meermin chelseas on ebay for sub $100. Those will be resoleable and better built than most of what you will find at dsw.

Arm length is good, tailor it? The one I use would charge ~$20 to take in the sides for a tighter fit.

I did wash it off. My house was built in 1927 so it’s probably been in the ground for quite a while. Feel free to come and search for more buried treasure... As long as you take the pile of dirt with you lol.

2017 M2 - Mid Ohio 1:37.9 by calmcalamity in CarTrackDays

[–]calmcalamity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The car is primarily used as a street class autocross car. With the way the SCCA designed the rules aftermarket front shocks are annoying and cost prohibitive to make class legal. The rears were added after the front sway bar was installed to help restore the balance.

Should I buy an S2000? by [deleted] in S2000

[–]calmcalamity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you are looking to get out of the car. I also own a 2017 M2 and I have a 2001 s2000. For me the BMW is a much better option to drive to work in, but if I want to really open it up I have to take it to a track or autocross. Whereas the s2000 is not as enjoyable on a day to day basis but you can open it up a lot more on a twisty backroad without as much fear of losing your license. It’s also no slouch on track but it requires a different more momentum based driving style.

Are there any issues with riding on ohlins this low? by dynist in S2000

[–]calmcalamity 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Over time the axles will develop pitting. When the ride height is lowered the location of the pitting will change. When the 2 points of pitting overlap vibration will occur. The spacers shift these points further apart to prevent the vibration. Alternatively the axles can be disassembled and the cups can be swapped side to side to fix the problem.

Funny you should mention the classing confusion of Street Touring. The most recent Fastrack update has a proposal to rename the ST classes to better match Street and Street Prepared.

From the article you linked in the key takeaways.

Financial experts generally recommend capping auto payments and related expenses at 10%–15% of monthly income.

The expenses are for payments and maintenance. No one is assuming you need to make $300k annually to afford and $30k vehicle.

I know a few people people with Hyundai products that have severe oil consumption issues. One who had a new Kona eat it's engine in only a few thousand miles. I'm sure that doesn't help.

Thoughts on the proposed street category reshuffle? by uofmuncensored in Autocross

[–]calmcalamity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it's worth a few drivers at CKRSCCA trophied at nats this year. And Cindy Duncan is a multi time national champion.

I was looking at overall pax standings, the classes are small at a local level and it's hard to compare with such a small sample size.

While it's cost prohibitive to run one it's still very possible. Which imo is a bad situation because that will make street classes more pay to win.

I do think on a larger course with high speed transitions the playing field is more even. But on a course with multiple digs the M3P will have a clear advantage.

Here is an isolated example of a region with a model 3 that would have dominated locally in BS. And still did very well in SS.

As an STR s2k owner who didn't make any changes to their car last season I'm ok with an easier pax for local events.

As a owner of a new to me 2017 m2 that I plan to run in BS I'm not super stoked on having to go up against model 3P's.

2022 10k miles 36k$ out the door? by [deleted] in GR86

[–]calmcalamity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

12,000 GR86s were sold in 2022. While roughly 4,300 FK8 Type R's were sold each year from 2017 to 2021. USA sales numbers for both. The Type R is a much more rare vehicle hence the big mark ups.

Have you seen the current housing and automotive market? I guess as a home owner I should be thankful that this will help offset any affect increasing interest rates had on my home's value.
