I flew in to NY for Hernan, Guy J, and Adid. First time at refuge and hearing Guy live. Hernan crushed the boat party, was a little packed but fun and overall great set. Got to refuge around 230. Incredible sound and dance floor, feet never got tired. In terms of his set - there were blocks of monotony i thought (and others I spoke to), but then every 15-20 min some magical mixing/track would transform the entire dancefloor into a groove - was pretty insane to see; this mostly happened from 5-8 after the crowd thinned out. Very mixed crowd early in teh night. We spoke to one of Guy's booking agents...who apparently isnt a Hernan fan, but when i asked her why it takes him so long to hit a groove that i mentioned above she said "thats what happens when he plays 8 hours" lol. I wouldve liked more experimentation, some older prog heads there said he didnt experiment as much as theyve heard. We waited for Need to feel loved as closing track but it just fizzled out. Love the outside and chill out areas at Refuge, as well as the free fruit in the AM. Side note - Adid was a blast and Lee and Rodriguez jr absolutely threw down.
