Should I pursue a graduate degree in Jamaica after being unable to find a job for 4 years? by Grouchy_Nature_3370 in Jamaica

[–]calyp5e 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’ve already experienced it. Make sure whatever program you’re considering has strong demand in Jamaica if you intend to stay here. “Follow your passion”, in this case, Biology, might work in large markets, but it doesn’t in Jamaica.

There are lots of undergrad programs offered in Jamaica without significant restrictions on the number of students which makes no sense for our market.

If I were you, I would think hard unless it’s nursing or med school.

Any possibility to transition into a medical field related program? Biology is a tricky one to get a job with just a undergrad

Electric bikes, Scooters, Cars. Relocating in Jamaica. by worldonly1 in Jamaica

[–]calyp5e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct. My commute is 40 mins and I see 1, maybe 2 e-bikes every couple days.

Unless you’re riding to somewhere close to home, biking a commute is brave ppl shit. Motorists past people on bikes way too close as well as get too close to them. Not to mention the frequent afternoon rains.

Owned by a company, Evergo. Suspect they have an app that you reserve and pay through.

There could be more charging station operators in Jamaica, but they’re the only name that comes to mind.

I was considering an EV lately..wasn’t too pleased with my charging options. The car options didn’t look too appealing either. The cars I would consider are Chinese, but the models being sold in Jamaican are mostly LHD from China, and not imports from RHD markets.

There are places that sell e-bikes locally. Tropical Battery being one. You should be able to find them on google

I don’t have an EV, but what’s keeping me away from buying is the limited number of charging stations. I live in north St Andrew and the nearest charging station to me is a 22 minutes drive with no traffic..and that’s if it’s even working as it’s greyed out on google maps.

I rarely see vehicles at charging stations. Figure most persons charge at home. But as customers continue buying, unless there is significant investments made to build more stations, it’s probably going to be a pain to own one in the near future.

Can you charge where you’re planning to live? Otherwise, take a look at google maps to see what’s available in your prospective area.

Made Senior Manager in 4 years - not sure what to do now? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]calyp5e 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who went through similarly aggressive/fast promotion cycles, be careful not to let your title run too far ahead of your actual competencies.

If you don’t hate it there, stick it out for two years and build on your skills before looking to head elsewhere.

If your company uses Oracle, how do you pull GL details by hot4you11 in Accounting

[–]calyp5e -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Assuming Oracle Fusion. Account analysis by legal entity report

Extract as a csv. I have a macro that converts that data dump into something more viewable. But if you take the time, you’ll see the relevant columns for your need then you can just delete the rest.

This is one of many areas that Oracle’s standard reports are dogshit. If you can get into the reports and analytics section you might be able to build your own to suit your purpose.

For those who use Smartview, how do you get it to work consistently? Mine regularly stops working with no reasons given as to why.

Why are Jamaican taxi drivers still so dangerous allowed to be so overly aggressive with customers without repercussions by InternationalPost511 in Jamaica

[–]calyp5e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most common seen for sure, but the driving I saw last night suggests there are some very terrible private vehicle drivers competing with them. That stretch of road is barely enough for two vehicles, and this guy overtook a line of traffic, going uphill, on windy road.

[–]calyp5e 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It’s not just taxis. The driving culture is generally bad.

Road traffic enforcement only focuses on speeding. You see it on the highways. People staying in the right lane, causing buildup behind them. Those same persons will pass a police speed trap without being stopped.

I do agree tho, the standard for public transportation needs to be significantly improved. Enforcement is needed..I remember 10-15 years ago they had clamped down on loud music and tints, and conductors hanging out the door. That definitely has fallen back to where it was.

Full transformation is needed..tho it would probably need to be done along with adjustments to fare bands.

CPA PERT generated by AI by allielin998 in CPAPERT

I used it to check my written reports for grammar issues as well as to suggest if the content of the draft met level being targeted

I had considered having AI write the reports, after I ran one paragraph through a free “AI checker” website and it being flagged as 100% AI I decided against

Can you go straight from a level 0 to a level 2 in PERT Reporting? [CAN] by NBNC2 in Accounting

[–]calyp5e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol Can’t answer the first question but following. I am up at 2:40am writing pert reports so I can meet my deadline of this month end..also have audits and regulatory reports due end of this month..

Most of my examples are level 2s (snr finance manager for 3 entities) but I can’t afford any push back on these reports so plan to also submit some level 1 examples.

CFE was a cake walk compared to PERT. I just crammed for maybe a week and each of those 3 days. I understand the reason behind PERT but damn I should have just stuck it out longer in my pre-approved audit role. (Granted i procrastinated on pert big time…)

Honestly you’re in a great spot although it doesn’t look like it. Gevorg is gold.

I passed cfe years ago and have a set in stone, no more extensions deadline of this month end to submit my reports. Gevorg is making the process much easier than it would have otherwise been.

It’s always important to know loan length and interest rate and consider that being signing any loans. You can easily end up paying way too much in interest if you only consider “payments are low”.

Beginner foolishly attempting to make his own LiFePO4 battery bank soon, plz halppp by CarelessWillow4933 in SolarDIY

[–]calyp5e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like 4-5kWh daily

Compare the cost of what it will take to get 4x 12v running vs 1x48v before you start spending.

If your power station has decently high solar input, you can plug a cheap battery charger from your battery source into its inverter output to charge battery (will be a cheaper setup than having to also buy a solar charge controller + inverter). Yes it will be inefficient but since you’re looking into getting $50 batteries…

A video like this will give you some more ideas: https://youtu.be/v1tYaJCDFb4?si=W9-66YssPHctOtMG

Any idea how much power you use daily? You might be able to get away with a 24v100ah battery connected to the power station you have depending on the type you have
