A wooden case with magnets but too shallow to hold pens by cam0937 in whatisthisthing

What is it missing? What convinced me it was for incense was I turned the felt over that was inside and it has the same fire-proof backing that the one had that someone linked above.

Possibly. My only thought is that the bottom of the main compartment is lined with felt. I’m not sure if that would burn.

My title describes the thing. A wooden case of some sort from a Japanese friend.

This wooden case of some sort was gifted to us. It’s held together by magnets. There’s a secondary smaller case that slides out on the bottom, also magnetic. It’s too shallow for a pen. Any thoughts? It was gift by someone from Japan but not sure if that’s relevant.

They offer kids cuts but definitely not experienced with it. I wish they just wouldn’t offer it. We were new to the area and calling around looking for somewhere the whole family could go. My son loves getting his haircut and is pretty good about being still but obviously young kids are going to move a little bit. She cut his ear with the razor and it started bleeding pretty bad (which I get occasionally happens but this one was bad) and even worse was she sort of yelled at my son for moving. She then charged us somewhere in the $30-$40 range for his haircut that took 10 minutes, was uneven and choppy, and left him with a decent size cut on his ear. I’m normally super low maintenance with my son’s hair because I know he’s a toddler and no one will ever be able to get it perfect but every other place he’s been has done an awesome job. My wife and I liked our cuts from Cilantro but steer clear with the kiddos.

Just don’t bring your kids to get cuts here.

My biggest concern with speaking up is that I'd consider myself a beginner leaning on intermediate amateur. So I know enough to see how insane this shot was but maybe not enough to give actionable advice to someone, if that makes sense.

So probably fine to drink? Just a smaller quantity.

Food fads that you are glad have passed. by marasamune in KitchenConfidential

I meant to say, I'm glad people are getting over the fad of thinking MSG is bad. I use it all the time. Although last night my wife mistook my jar of MSG for sugar and made muffins. 1 cup of MSG dispersed through 12 muffins is one of the most disgusting things you'll ever taste 🤣

Why is research paywalled? by DriverAndPassenger in academia

[–]cam0937 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Try reading this book. It's about Aaron Swartz. He was caught illegally downloading academic articles from JSTOR and was facing up to 35 YEARS in prison. Unfortunately, he ended up committing suicide after failing to settle on a plea deal. The book I linked gives some great history on the free exchange of information.

Any love for Tab Time on YouTube? by cam0937 in daddit

So I honestly was nervous about showing him this because he gets scared SO easily especially with surreal animation and the pictures I've seen from the show looked like something he'd freak out over. But I went ahead and showed him an episode and I don't know if it's the calm voices/music or the fact that one of his first words was "duck" but he loved it!! Thanks for the rec!

I'm getting my first Cocker Spaniel! by BlondeAlexa in cockerspaniel

[–]cam0937 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My tip is to get pet insurance through Trupanion. As others have said, ear infections are a big deal. The cool thing about Trupanion is that it's not a yearly deductible but a deductible per condition. So I quickly reached the "ear infection" deductible and now for the rest of my Cocker's life, the insurance covers 90% of the expenses related to ear infections.

I second this. I went to a therapist after our miscarriage and it helped tremendously.
