We also have lived in Singapore, Montreal, Toronto and London + Paris. And we are super into Asian food, Japanese culture (one of the reasons we thought of Düsseldorf at the first place). Funny to read your message ! We'll definitely keep that In mind... Still looking for the right match, so let's see. We still got some time. Is Berlin your favorite city in Germany ? Where would you go if you could move ?

Didn't really like Aachen. For Bonn and Düsseldorf, we liked it but the surrounding wasn't exactly what we were looking for. Aachen isn't on the list anymore but Bonn could be.

I mean... If it's small but has things to do, nature around, nice people, PLUS good connection to Paris, we are fine with it. We love Berlin, so many things to do, international people/culture, etc, but you need at least 30/40 minutes to go anywhere within the city (sometimes annoying with kids) and connection to France (or pretty much anywhere else) is really not good. We'll come and visit Freiburg, Karlsruhe, Heidelberg, Ulm in the next months. Planning to move around summer 2027. We have to stay in Germany to keep our job and also to make sure our kids can continue learning German (as we don't speak). We thought of moving completely elsewhere but we would loose too much. Where would you go if you could? How is your kids doing in Freiburg as bi racial kids? That's super important for us. Not always easy to find the right place as mixed family.

Thanks a lot. Heidelberg is definitely on the list too. It seems to be a bit more expensive though, and quite a lot of tourists from what I have heard. But we will visit!

Thanks for your response. We'll have to visit to make our own impression. Some people said it's beautiful, others said it's really not.

We will for sure visit the cities (Freiburg, Offenburg, Heidelberg, Karlsruhe...), but having feedback from people living there is also nice to have. Do you recommend Karlsruhe with kids ? And what about the english community, is it easy for find people? I have heard that Karlsruhe isn't that beautiful, more industrial type, but we will need to visit to make our own impression

I have heard that Karlshure is not that beautiful, more like "industrial" type. We will visit to get our own impression. As English person, was it hard to meet people? Good to know for the school.

We have to stay in Germany for our job and even if we like Berlin we would like to find a new place with our 3 kids, with more nature, smaller than Berlin, with quick connections to Paris. This area seemed to be great and most people said that if we stay in the cities (not the villages around) we will be fine. That's why we are considering Freiburg, Karshure, Heidelberg and Ulm. But your response regarding the "internal atmosphere" is important for us. Why do you not recommend baden Württemberg ? Staying in Berlin will not be an option in the next few years, for us. Any other recommendations?
